❃ Evangeline ❃
I sprinted down along the corridor of the bunker alongside Eira. On the outside, it seemed completely rundown due to the abandoned state of the environment, however, on the inside, the bunker was completely furnished with the latest technology. There was a scent of medicine lingering in the air, and in the brightly lit corridor, the only sounds accompanying us were our heavy panting and hurried footfalls.
"Take a left!"
We turned at the same time with Eira at the lead, and we arrived at a wooden door. Eira slammed it open, and I immediately noticed the rustic-looking furniture and despite being this far down, the room was well-ventilated and equally well-lit.
It made me wonder if a metahuman helped in the construction of this bunker.
On the stark white bed, there was a frail-looking young man laying down on it. If it weren't for his chest moving up and down slightly, I would assume he was completely dead.
"That is..."
"My brother."
"Ah..."
"For seven long years. He remained just like that." Eira muttered out, and she gritted out the next few words, filled with anger and sorrow. "In an eternal sleep."
Her shoulders trembled slightly.
"Everytime I think I would be making progress, I am back right where I began. Just looking at his peaceful face, knowing I could never speak to him again. Knowing he is simply living like the dead."
"Eira..."
"I ended up learning how to erase the existence of a vampire. What a useless thing." Eira scoffed, her voice quivering. "At times, I thought of completely ending his misery of having his soul trapped in this world, but...but..."
I stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Eira sniffled loudly, using her torn sleeves to rub at her eyes. "Damn it. How could I give up on my brother who sacrificed himself to save me?"
"Let's bring your brother away from here, along with your research materials. It's not safe, and now, perhaps we can help."
"Yeah, you are right. It isn't safe for him. I'll kill anyone who harms my brother." Eira growled, her voice hoarse as she marched forward. "I swore to keep him safe and alive, no matter what."
All of a sudden, I saw her lifting her hands and aiming at the research materials and her personal laboratory. She pressed them together, and in an instant, everything was compressed into a certain space. If I didn't know this was a world filled with humans with mystifying powers, I would have been bewildered by that sight.
"You are a metahuman too?" I questioned.
"Well, no point in hiding now." Eira sighed, nodding her head at me as she glanced back. "I can manipulate space to a certain extent, and I can also store items into that space, which counts as a different dimension."
"Woah. That's a pretty amazing power." I gasped out in amazement. "The fact that Christine personally knows you means that you have impressive medical knowledge as well. You seem pretty young too."
"So what if it is an amazing power? So what if I am an accomplished person? " Eira retorted bitterly. "It didn't help me in saving my brother. It didn't help me in obtaining wolf's bane."
I paused at her words. "Wolf's bane?"
"Since we are forced to co-exist with vampires, the damn royal family of vampires snatched up all sources of wolf's bane in our world and put it in theirs. I heard every single possible source is monitored by them. Even if by some rare chance you possessed it, you'll have vampires breathing down your back at every second."
