♛ Segi ♛
Upon hearing those blunt words from Eira, the hope that was brimming within me instantly deflated. With the help of Eva and that asshole, this lifetime was definitely different but in the end, I still couldn't find a solution to my mother's condition.
Eternal sleep was essentially the death of a vampire.
"So that's what this all led to?" I muttered with a bitter smile. "In the end, my mother will remain dead for an eternity."
"Segi..." Eva whispered my name, squeezing my hand.
"You have a family that suffers from eternal sleep?" Eira questioned before she paused, her voice growing soft. "My condolences."
"Death is something you have to accept even if you can't." Aaron commented nonchalantly.
I felt my anger surging as my black eyes changed to a frightening crimson red. "Shut up."
"I know it better than anyone, Segi." Aaron retorted, his frigid eyes meeting mine.
It was then I remembered that this asshole watched his entire clan die right before his eyes. If it was him, he definitely has the right to say those words.
"Does acceptance mean going around and killing every vampire you see?" I questioned.
"...that's different." Aaron glanced away, his voice growing cold. "They came for me first, so I had to fight back."
"Those vampires were sent by my uncle, but you killed those who were innocent as well!"
"Hah! You are just like them, accusing me of something I haven't done." Aaron scoffed. "I am not the only vampire hunter around! Do I look like someone who enjoys killing vampires?!"
"Isn't that what your whole life has been? I saw you cutting down my brethren who posed no threat."
"Did you see them accusing me and attacking me without warning?"
"Who knows? You metahumans love to lie."
"Bastard."
"Asshole."
"Enough, please." Eva stepped in, giving us a conflicted look. "Arguing like this won't help with the situation."
"My three minutes are up." Eira said, pulling her hood up as she lifted the door to her bunker, preparing to climb back down. "Bye."
Eva panicked, stretching her hand towards Eira and pulling on the sleeve on her hoodie. "Wait a second, please. At least tell us how your research have–"
Tsssst!
There was a distinctive tearing sound and all of us watched as the sleeve of Eira's hoodie was torn into half, exposing the lower half of her right arm.
"Ugh, great." Eira groaned.
"I am..." Eva blinked rapidly, horrified. "I am so sorry."
"That thing was going to give out anyway, whether you pulled on it or not." Eira answered, snatching her torn sleeve back.
At that moment, I noticed a peculiar insignia engraved on the skin of her pale, skinny wrist. A chord of realisation struck my mind, and I rushed forward with my vampiric speed, placing my hand on Eira's shoulder before she walked away.
"Get your hands off–"
"You and your brother. You were the pair of siblings that my mother saved years ago." I blurted. "My mother gave her blood to your brother, so that he could save you."
