Had the worst writer's block! Finally decided where I wanted to take this story, also have been in love with historical based books, particularly the 1940's. So be on the lookout for a new book! :)
xxxLying to my parents about where I was planning on staying for the next few days went smoothly, even though my insides felt like butter. Thank god my voice didn't betray me and give away that I had other plans in mind.
Roman and I made our escape from my house and to his beauty of a car. Roman politely held my door open, allowing me to slide in. He tosses my bag in the back, getting in gracefully himself. While throwing me his signature smirk, he brought the engine to life and squealed off onto the street.
I stare out my window watching my town pass until we reached the outskirts and the endless forest began. A soft smile played on my lips as memories of Memphis and I playing in the forest when we were younger burned in my mind. Although it hurt to remember, it was a relief to think of happier times.
Caught up in my thoughts I didn't hear Roman trying to grab my attention, "October!" He calls out loudly, then deeply clearing his throat.
Peeling my eyes away from the forest and turning my head towards him, I couldn't help let a giggle out from the annoyed, skewered face Roman had plastered on.
His eyes somehow narrowed even more, causing me to roll my eyes and let out an exasperated sigh, "What do you want?" I grumble now annoyed from his hostile attitude.
"I was calling your name, and trying to grab your attention for last passed half hour. So, I'm sorry for being a little annoyed." He says sourly, allowing his face to relax a bit.
I bite my bottom lip, embarrassed that I zoned out for a half hour. "I'm sorry, I just had some memories of my brother come up, I didn't realize I was completely zoned out." I mumble, heat rising to my cheeks causing them to become a flame. "What was it you wanted?" I asked him calmly, giving a warm smile.
I could see his face completely soften as his annoyed mood left and his playful one returned. His sudden mood swing and his now big goofy smile had me in a fit of laughter, earning me a playful nudge in the shoulder.
"Now that I finally have your undivided attention, I was asking if you would like to go out this evening? I know how hard it is to lose a family member, especially one so close to you. I was just thinking we would go out and give Memphis one last hoorah, celebrate his life and allow yourself a night off from grieving. I think it would do you some good, it did with me at least." His words wrench at my heart, knowing he went through something similar.
I go with my better judgement and decide against asking him about it just yet. My eyes study his stiff body, and his now unreadable face features. 'Well, it does sound like a good idea.' My mind reasoned. I scrunch my face up, still staring at Roman.
A deep laugh erupts from him, making my heart freeze from the absolute wonderful sound. "You are over thinking things again. Is it so hard to just go with the flow?" He teases, winking at me.
For the first time in awhile, a big genuine smile spreads across my lips, my tense body now somehow carefree. "Let's do it. Is it okay if I invite a couple of my girl friend's?" I ask, raising a questioning eyebrow at him.
"Already, a step ahead of you. Stole your phone from your back pocket while you were talking to your parents and messaged Leah, and Melissa to meet at my apartment in the City. Everything is taken care of. Thankfully you have your contacts organized in groups, or else I would've invited everyone." He states matter of factly.
My mouth hangs open as his hand reaches into his pocket, pulls out my phone and places it into my lap like it was no big deal. I smack his arm hard, apparently hurting myself more than him as he didn't flinch. I unlock my phone quickly and open my text messages, revealing Roman's text,
"Hello, this is Roman. October's new friend ;) Anyhow, we are planning on having a little get together for her brother tonight, and I know how much she would appreciate if you were there with her. My address is 73629 London St. My apartment is penthouse, access code 6924. Look forward to meeting you."
My eyes widen in shock as i re-read the text, and their replies.
"We're here. Come on, we have to go get ready. Your friends will be here soon, and I have dinner reservations for 6, then I took the time to book a booth at a new popular club." Roman states, grabbing my bag and getting out of the car and then pulling me out.
"Hello, Roman. I hope your visit went well." A young, cute curly headed teenage valet boy chimed as Roman handed him his keys.
Roman nodded as he clasps my hand tightly, "It went well thank you, Craig. This is October, her friends will be here shortly. Park their car by mine." He says briefly, starting to tug me towards the door of the lavish apartment building.
I manage to give Craig a friendly smile, he quickly returns it before the door man opens the door for Roman and I, allowing us to enter.
I gawk at how luxurious the inside of the building is. 'It must cost a fortune to live here!' My mind screams as I suddenly feel very awkward and out of place. Roman is greeted by dozens of more people as we make our way to the elevators. His face remains cold and hard as he just gives a nod. The elevator door opens and we step in, Roman finally letting go of his tight grip of my hand.
My eyes narrow suspiciously at him as I rub my hand softly, "What was that for?" I grumble, pouting slightly.
He sighs, pressing the penthouse button then entering his access code, "Just wanted to make sure no one flirted with you, or looked at you in a way they shouldn't." I says blatantly, staring straight ahead.
"Even if they did, why does it concern you?" I snap harshly, folding my arms across my chest annoyed.
He turns towards me, staring seriously into my bright hazel eyes. He reaches up with his free hand and tucks my dark brown hair behind my ear, my breathing hitches in my throat and my heart beats rapidly in my chest, "Because October, it angers me seeing anyone treating you or looking at you with even an ounce of less respect you deserve. You are an amazingly beautiful woman, but it isn't just your beauty people should notice. You are smart, compassionate, funny, generous, and just so much more. You deserve every ounce of respect from a person." His words came out like music to my heart. Before I had time to stutter out a lame reply the elevator door slid open, indicating the end of our ride.
