Once Roman, Rudy, Niklaus, and I were all prepared for our trek through the woods, I couldn't help but to feel nervous about seeing Memphis.
It wasn't a good or excited nervous either, I was slightly afraid of what has become of my older brother.
"Are you okay?" A gentle voice asked me as he held my hand tighter.
I give Roman a simple nod and take a deep breath in as the woods began to become more dense with vegetation.
The birds chirped happily above of from the thick treetops, with not a care in the world. Which is something I envied.
"A few more minutes we should be there." Rudy piped up from in front of us, nearly slipping on a rock with slick moss.
His temporary accident made me forget for a moment what we were doing, and made me giggle hysterically.
This earned me a hard glare after he stopped looking like a fish out of water.
"For a vampire, you're not to graceful." I teased, poking my tongue out playfully.
He shrugged his shoulders, merrily trudging along. Roman let out a chuckle along with Niklaus.
Rudy definitely wasn't the smartest vampire, but he made up with kindness and humour. His personality made him the life of the party, also his looks helped quite a bit with his various tattoos he has collected with time.
Niklaus on the other hand, although quite handsome, he was very standoffish and reserved. Which is kind of like how Roman is with most people.
As we continued to walk through the woods we suddenly came to an abrupt stop, and Roman wrapped his arms protectively around me.
"What's going on?" I ask slightly afraid. Who knows what can be in these woods!
SNAP!
A branch in the woods goes hurling at us. Roman quickly drops to the ground with me pinned under him.
"He must not be in a good mood." Rudy mumbles.
"Really Einstein?" Klaus snaps at Rudy annoyed.
"Can you two shut the fuck up?" Roman hisses as he protectively covers me with his body.
I wouldn't mind being in this position any other time. But right now I have a mad vampire brother trying to knock us all out with huge branches, possibly kill us as well.
"Memphis, calm down! I have brought someone to see you. She is extremely excited to see you again. I except you to be on your best damn behaviour!" Roman roars with a voice laced with authority.
For a moment there was silence, then there was a whoosh. When I gained the courage to peep over Roman's shoulder, I froze in shock. Not to mention all the other emotions that were filling me as I finally saw my brother.
I began to squirm under Roman's tight grasp, but it was useless.
With another squirm, I raised my voice at him, "Let me go!"
Gradually he began to slowly release me, keeping his eyes on Memphis. Once I was finally out of his agonizingly tight hold, I sprung up to get a better view of my long lost brother.
He was completely different, but the same. If that made any sense. His chocolate brown hair seemed to shine more, his normal peachy complexion was now porcelain and flawless. All of his features were incredibly heightened. The one thing that stood out the most was his normally bright hazel eyes, the ones that matched mine, were now blood red. He looked more like a vampire and less like my brother.
I gulped taking in his new appearance. Nervously I took a step towards him,
"I've missed you so much." I whispered, my voice barely audible.
He wicked grin played upon his lips as he took a confident step towards me,
"I wish I could say the same for the sister who couldn't save her own brother." He teased menacingly, now standing before me.
His words stung me right to the core. I reach out to him, trying to hold him, and tell him that I really did try to save him. But my actions were greeted with a low animal like growl that vibrated through his chest.
"Memphis, please. I di-" I began, only to be cut off.
"Say another word, or try to touch me and I will tear through your neck." He spits at me, venom coated in each word.
Suddenly his face contorts into something I've never seen before, similar to demons in movies or books.
I was quickly pushed out of the way into Rudy's arms, where he held a firm grasp on me.
Roman and Klaus stood between Memphis, Rudy and I. Their faces and posture matching Memphis's.
"Stand down now, or else." Klaus threatens.
Memphis lets out a crackling laugh, sneering at the both of them.
"You will not harm my mate, and your future queen. Most of all your sister." Roman's booming voice shouted in hostility.
Memphis narrowed his eyes and took a step back, "I told you not to bring her here. Mate, Queen, sister, or whatever, I do not want to see her!" He yelled back with as much hostility.
With that, he had run off and disappeared into the thick woods that surround us.
I couldn't stop the trembling in my body as Rudy gently let me go. The trembles racked my body and I couldn't help but to fall to the ground. Sobs erupted from my chest and my cries sound like a severely wounded animal.
Roman kneeled before me and embraced me tightly; allowing me to just sob into his chest for a good half hour.
As my sobs turned into hiccups, and my tears eased, Roman helped me to my feet. The sun began to set causing the forest to begin to look extremely gloomy and creepy.
"Here, get in my arms and bury your face in my chest. We need to get out of these woods before nightfall." Roman encouraged me softly, holding his well sculpted arms out for me.
I nodded my head simply, my throat being to hoarse and dry to say anything.
He scooped me up in bridal style with ease and allowed me to adjust myself before taking off.
Although Roman ran at the speed of light practically, I couldn't help hearing the terrifying sound of a pack of wolves howling off in the distance. It made a fearful shiver run up my spine.
Once home, Roman didn't bother putting me down. He went straight up to our room and set me down on the bed.
Sighing in frustration of the fact I haven't said a word yet, he made another attempt,
"That wasn't your brother you seen today. That was a predator with his humanity cut off. He knows no emotion. I thought him seeing you would trigger some type of human emotion. And it did, just not the one I had hoped for."
I looked at him and gave a weak smile, "It's okay. It's not your fault. Thank you for everything you have done for me. I do truly appreciate it."
He laid down beside me, pulling me up against him firmly; snuggling his face into my hair.
"I love you." He whispers sweetly.
"I love you too." I whisper back.
My thoughts flutter back to the forest, and those strange sounding pack of wolves.
"Roman, what was wrong with those wolves? They sounded quite different from other wolves. They sound larger, stronger, and a lot more vicious." I couldn't help but to question.
His face scrunched in disgust, "Those are Lycans. Werewolves."
