Chapter 5 - Can we start over?

The next morning, the girls woke up to a piercing scream that destroyed everyone's eardrums. The unsinkable eight, minus Shelby and Toni, (so technically it was the unsinkable six), made their way to the source of the scream. They found the source to be Shelby.

Shelby had come across a gigantic reptile, which she was deathly afraid of. Dot sighed, before killing it with her weapon.

"You need to stop coming across a snake. This is the second time, I was obliged to save you, cause I definitely don't want you to die." Dot expresses, looking at Shelby.

"I am sorry."

"You don't need to apologise. I just want you to be more careful." Shelby nods at Dot's statement.

"How's your neck, wrist and stomach feeling?" Fatin inquires, making Shelby immediately feel like shit. She hated that she worried the girls so much.

"Um, it's fine. It just hurts a little bit." Shelby answered.

"Well, I need to change your bandages so let's go." Dot declared.

Dot began to walk away from the girls, but stopped when she realised that Shelby wasn't following her. She looked back at Shelby, who just looked at the sand.

"Ummm, can, Toni change them?" Shelby asked, making the girls look at each other, not knowing what to say. But, they didn't have to.

"Yeah, I can change them." Toni interrupted the girls' thoughts. Shelby smiles that Toni was civil towards her, well maybe.

The girls look at Toni with surprise to which Toni gives them look, saying 'it's fine.' The girls nod in understanding.

"Let's go." Toni says to Shelby. Shelby slowly gets up, and follows Toni.

"This won't end well." Leah finishes, causing the girls to nod simultaneously.

Toni grabs Jeanette's bag filled with medicine, before sitting on the sand. She faces Shelby, who is sitting in front of her, looking towards Toni. Shelby holds out her wrist with tape over it towards Toni.

Toni grabs the necessities she needs to change Shelby's bandages. Toni gently grabs Shelby's wrist, causing both girls to feel a spark on their hands. Toni ignores it, before slowly taking off the old bandage covering Shelby's wrist, not wanting to hurt her.

Toni looks at the cut, to see that it has healed mostly, but still was quite red. Toni decided to not put anything over it, and sticked with putting some cream over it.

Toni slowly rubbed the cream on the injured wrist. Shelby immediately flinched at the touch of Toni's cold hand. Toni quickly looked at Shelby, worried that Shelby was in pain.

"I am okay. Your hand is just cold." Shelby answered, soothing Toni's mind. Toni nodded, and continued to rub the cream.

Both girls did not say anything after that. They didn't look at each other. Toni was focused on making sure Shelby's wounds were treated, and Shelby didn't have the courage to look Toni in the eyes, or look at her at all.

Once Toni was done patching Shelby up, she stood up, but was once again, was prevented from doing so, from a hand that used to be so familiar to her.

"Can we talk, please?" Shelby questioned with hesitation. Toni just looked at her, before sitting down again.

The two avoided each other's eyes. They sat there for a few minutes, not speaking a word, before someone decided to speak up.

"I am so sorry for being such an asshole to you." Shelby voiced, resulting in Toni to look into her eyes which held so much sadness and pain. Toni absolutely hated that.
