Zayla's POV
I walk down the creaky hallway when I heard faint whispers. I pressed my back against the wall and slowly walked down the hallway until I was near the kitchen.
"We gotta fill her in today man, plan is today." Dally whispered.
"Ya I know, but what if she isn't ready to go back?" Johnny replied a little louder than Dally.
"She has to try. What if Pony gets himself killed, we know the kid is dumb enough to do that." Dally replied with slight frustration.
After hearing those words I finally entered the kitchen to see them by the stove, facing each other. I walked up to Johnny, whose back was facing me. Dally glanced up at me, and before he could point me out I make a shush motion.
I placed my hands on Johnny's shoulders, "Not ready to go back to where?" I said. This caused Johnny to jolt and look back at me.
"Okay that was rude. I don't know if you are ready to go back to work. You are still injured!" Johnny said, slightly raising his voice. He never does that, but I guess he is that worried.
"Johnny don't worry, they are only putting me behind the register. That'll be good because I can easily see out the windows. You don't have to worry." I said with a smile. This seemed to ease his nerves a little bit.
"Okay you two, here is the plan." He said leaning in to whisper.
I was going to work behind the counter and keep an eye out. I was on a main street, which is usually a popular spot for trouble. There are creepy alleys and apartments everywhere too.
Dally and Johnny are going to wait for Pony to wake up, and when he leaves Dally and Johnny will go out the back door and lag behind him.
If anything goes wrong we fight. If Pony notices them and makes a break for it Dally is allowed to tackle him and restrain him.
As soon as Dally explained the plan we heard the door creak in the hallway. We quickly broke up and went out seperate ways. Dally went out back, Johnny went into the livingroom and started watching TV, and I went down the hallway to get ready for work. I passed by Pony who gave me a look, but not his usual look. He usually looks at me with disgust, but this time he looked sorry.
I put on my yellow work uniform and peeked out the door. I didn't see Pony and I didn't hear the TV going which means they most likely left.
I grabbed my keys and walked out the front door. Keys are pretty useless since we keep the door unlocked, but I have keys for self defense. I usually have my switchblade in my front or back pocket, so I can't always get to it. I keep my keys inbetween my fingers in case there is a situation where I can't get to my blade.
I went with the route I planned yesterday. It was a calmer route since I can't get into too much trouble. Trouble plus a bad leg is just asking for death.
Dally's POV
Pony had a black hoodie on and he had his hands shoved in his pockets.
"Y'know Dal, it actually kinda hurts." Johnny said looking down at the concrete.
I lit my cigarette and passed the lighter to Johnny.
"What hurts man?" I asked as he lit his cigarette.
"He lied. Pony is my best friend. He lied and won't tell any of us what's going on." He said as he looked away from the concrete and started looking up at the sky.
"Well Johnny, Pony may be the smartest Curtis school-wise, but outside of school the kid is pretty dumb." I said with a slight chuckle.
"You ain't wrong." Johnny said, agreeing with my previous statement.
I put my arm in front of Johnny, causing him to stumble.
I made a shush motion and we hid in an alley, our backs against the wall. I poked my head around the wall and saw Pony head onto the main street, which is in Zay's view.
"This is Zay's turf. Should we interfere or let her take it from here?" Johnny asked.
"Let's go." I said, leaving the alley.
Zayla's POV
I looked outside and saw Pony. Johnny and Dally were no where to be seen though.
"They better not leave this to me, or I will cheat in poker." I mumbled to myself.
After mumbling that I noticed them slowly turn the corner. As they got onto the street I saw Pony head to one of the apartments.
From what I could see, he knocked and the door slowly opened. What I saw made my stomach curl. There was a man at the door. I can't tell Dally who.
"Hey, you look sick. You good?" My co-worker Cindy asked.
"Uh I am feeling a little sick. Can you tell the boss I am clocking out early." I said putting my hand over my face.
This situation is messier than we think. They don't know what they are up against. We are so screwed. This entire situation is dangerous, and it could kill us.
"Ya don't worry I'll tell him. By the way they changed payments here. We get paid every other week now. You'll get paid this week, it won't be much but it's somethin." Cindy said.
"Thanks Cindy." I said as I waved goodbye.
I saw Pony enter the building where he was at. I ignored the sick feeling in my stomach as I left work. When I walked outside I got a better view of Johnny and Dally.
Dally looked angry and Johnny looked completely clueless. That terrifies me, because now Dally knows he is involved.
I shake off the stomach wrenching feeling and continue to walk back home. When I got back I heard rustling and talking in one of the rooms down the hallways.
"Damn it Soda don't break anything!" I heard Darry yell.
"Me? You almost broke the door to his closet off!" Soda yelled back.
"Children stop fighting." I said as I limped into the room.
"Darry I found something." Soda said as he pulled a box out of the closet.
*AUTHOR'S NOTE*Hey guys! I said shit was gonna get real. All the investigation chapters tie in together! Next chapter is obviously Soda and Darry's part so look forward to that!
