𝑰 took a sip of my chocolate shake while Dally stared out the window. "Things have changed here, it's gotten worse since you left. He is back Zalya."
Hearing that sentence made chills run down my spine. I knew what he meant by someone being back, Kevin. He was a friend of mine. Kevin changed a lot growing up, and eventually resented me. He always swore that he would kill me, or my family. Kevin eventually got sent to Texas, and no one ever saw him again.
"Don't worry, he won't get his hands on any of us. Not unless he can get passed me." I said slamming my cup onto the table.
"Zay, he is worse than before. He has been caught with heaters, caught stabbing people, he is completely different now. You need to avoid him." Dally said, with anger in his cold voice. I knew he was right, but I do need to keep an eye out for him, to protect my family.
"Don't worry I will. I am gonna head back home, you going to go to Buck's?" I asked. He nodded and I smiled before leaving the Dingo.
Dally ran down through an alley, and I slowly walked down the road. Hell, I don't even know if I am welcome back into my home. I felt a sudden rush of deja vu when I heard footsteps behind me. I look back and saw him.
Kevin.
He smirked, he had me where he wanted me. "What do you want Kevin." I said in a threatening tone. "Nothing, but it's nice to know you are out of the cooler." he said before walking a way. In an instant, I knew things were going to take a dark turn.
I stood frozen in place, once I was sure he was gone I quickly ran towards the lot. There were a bunch of memories attached to the lot. Soda and I used to play hide-n-seek here, Darry and I would play football, and Pony and I would play tag. This is also where I had my first kiss, however that is a story for another time.I swiftly removed those thoughts from my mind. I started at the shining stars, that lit up the night sky. Everything slowly became dark as I drifted to sleep.
-----
The sun burned my eyelids, forcing me to wake up. I groaned as I got up. My back was sore from laying against the tree.
Memories from last night flooded back into my mind, I couldn't tell Dally what happened for obvious reasons. There was only one more person in the gang that I trust. His name is Two-Bit Mathews.
I started walking back towards the Curtis household, lost in thought. It baffled me that Kevin was even released from jail.
I felt someone bump into me and I fell on my ass, on the concrete. I do this often so it didn't phase me. Laughing erupted and I saw Two laughing at my fall. I slowly started laughing along with him. His laughter has always been contiguous.
My face quickly fell back with worry, which he took note of. "What's up Zay?" He asked, his mood changing completely. I had no idea if I wanted to tell him, I trust him, but I know he goes through a lot.
Two lost his sister Brenda two years ago to a stabbing, his father left, and his mother was an alcoholic.
"Ah it's nothing Two." I said with a weak smile.
"It can't be nothin, tell me what's up." He said.
"Kevin is back. I ran into him last night, he knows I am outta the cooler." I said, looking down at the sidewalk. I started kicking rocks so I could avoid eye contact with Two.
I heard the sound of a switchblade and I looked up at Two. He pointed the blade in my face, causing my breath to hitch.
"See this? If I ever see him around you, I will make a very sharp decision." Two said with a serious tone. He sounded angry, which is rare.
I felt a wave of regret rush over me. I felt bad for telling Two, because now he has a lot more to worry about. He didn't need to worry about anything else. Well, what's done is done.
"Wanna go to the Curtis house?" I asked, changing the subject.
"Nah, I am going to Buck's." He said smirking. Usually when he goes to Buck's he will get drunk and then pick up a few blondes.
I laughed and we went our separate ways. Before I knew it I was back at the Curtis house, I'd call it my home but I don't exactly feel welcome at the moment. I walked through the door and felt glares on me.
"Don't have to glare at me every time you see me kid." I said, not looking at Pony directly. I started to walk towards the kitchen but then he opened his trap.
"Ya well you ain't wanted here." He scoffed.
I flipped around and walked right in front of him. I towered over him, since he was sitting on the couch.
"I am not welcome? Well fuckin get rid of me yourself. If you don't want me so bad kill me. I could care less." I said, with an empty sound to my voice. Everything was true, I could care less if he killed me.
Pony just stared. He didn't move, didn't speak, he had no reaction whatsoever. I went to walk towards my old room when I heard soft footsteps behind me. I glance back and I felt Pony drag me into a chokehold.
I didn't want to fight, but my body went into a sudden autopilot mode. I started slapping his arms, trying to get him to back off. A knot grew in my stomach because I knew we were the only one in the home.
I attempted to shake around to get him off but he was taller and more masculine. As everything went black I was slowly moving the floor and I heard a door slam open.
"Ponyboy Michael Curtis!" were the last words I heard before I fell into a world of darkness.
