Jeanine wakes Tris up the next morning. She's already dressed, and clearly not happy, not remembering the events from last night. "What the hell are you doing in my bed?" She asks harshly.
Tris shoots up like a bullet. "I'm sorry, Ms. Matthews. You were drunk last night, and I brought you home, and you asked me to stay," she rushes out. Jeanine rubs her forehead and sits down on the bed.
"I did what?" She asks harshly, jerking her head to stare at the girl.
"Ms. Matthews, it's my fault I should've not let you keep me. Good day," she whispers, standing up. Tris grabs a coat and her shoes on the way out and runs out of the apartment, not bothering to put them on. As soon as she's run far enough away; she slips her shoes on and the coat. She mutters a strand of curse words as she looks down and realizes that she was wearing one of Jeanine's sweaters that she didn't remember putting on, and had also grabbed her coat. Tris sighs as slips it on over the sweater with a sigh. The probability of anyone recognizing it was low, right? Tris barges into her dorm room. Audrey was sitting at her office chair with a book, staring at the door.
"Bout time you showed up. Where were you last night?" She asks suspiciously. Audrey then looks down to see the jacket Tris was wearing. "You didn't!"
Did what?" Tris asks nervously, pretending to be confused.
"You were with Jeanine all night, weren't you?" Audrey asks with a smirk.
"What? No!"
"Denying is pointless. Jeanine has her coats specially made. That's her jacket."
Tris sighs. "Fine. I was."
"So how do you feel after sleeping with the faction leader?" Audrey asks with a large smirk.
"I did not sleep with Jeanine Matthews!" Tris says, quite loudly and defensively. Audrey shushes her and points to the door. Tris had forgotten to shut it when she walked in, and there was now a couple standing in front of the door listening in. Tris mutters a strand of curse words under her breath and hides behind the door. She quickly takes the coat off and throws it at Audrey, hoping they couldn't see. "It's Joanna," she practically hisses. "She shows up at all the inconvenient times. I swear," she mouths. Tris then awkwardly leans in the doorframe as Joanna stares at her. "I was just denying one of Audrey's jokes," she says casually. "She's kind of funny until she starts shipping me with people," Tris says, glaring at the girl slightly. Joanna nods hesitantly and walks off. Tris let's put a long sigh before shutting the door.
"Are you going to tell what really happened?" Audrey asks.
"No," Tris mumbles, climbing up to her bunk. So lays down and lays her head on her arm, mainly to inhale Jeanine's scent from the sweater. Audrey notices and throws the jacket up at her. Tris sits up from her laying position to look at her.
"What? You were clearly into the sweater. Take the jacket too," she says with an eye roll.
Tris sighs and hangs it on a hook where she'd normally put her own coat. "I'll give it back to her when I work up the nerve. So probably never," she mutters dryly.
"Give it to her at breakfast tomorrow. It's Sunday today, and you can use classes as an excuse to run off early on Monday so you don't have to talk to her," Audrey suggests.
Tris chews on her bottom lip. "Yeah. Good idea. I'm just worried. She's the faction leader. She could call me to her office at any time to speak to me and I just..." she closes her eyes and falls back on her bed again.
"Valid thought," Audrey says with a shrug. Tris throws a small pillow at her in retaliation for not liking her response. Audrey catches it and stands up. "You wanna go?!" She jokes, almost yelling. Tris shakes her head and Audrey tosses her the pillow.
"Why does facing someone after you humiliated yourself in front of them, even though they don't remember, seem so daunting?"
Audrey's eyes widen. "You like her, don't you?" She asks, walking over to her bed.
"I don't like her," Tris mutters. "Otherwise I would've been the one to kiss her."
"SHE DID WHAT?!" Audrey practically yells. She then climbs up on the girl's bed. She moves Tris' legs over to make a spot for herself to sit. "Tell me all of the details!"
"She was drunk and didn't realize what she was doing. She doesn't remember now, and I'm not going to be the one to remind her. She'd probably regret it anyways. Don't want to embarrass the woman more," she mumbles.
"Look. I know I'm not the best at relationships-"
"Not the best? Audrey, you dated the cashier for two days!"
"Yeah, well... I guess I don't have an excuse for that." Tris rolls her eyes at this. "But Tris, I do think you should really go talk to her."
"And what will I benefit from that?"
"A better chance at not being killed or kicked out of the faction," Audrey suggests.
Tris sighs. "Later today. Not now."
Audrey claps her hands together with a smile. "You should write an apology note too. Maybe get her something?"
Tris nods. "Noted," she says. "But first I'm going to take a nap. Last night was stressful." Audrey lets out a chuckle before grabbing a book and exiting the dorm with a small nod, not wanting to disturb the girl from her slumber.
Tris wakes up three hours later and gets ready. "Here goes nothing. Except for my pride. And my guts. And literally everything," she mutters to herself, heading to find a Jeanine; which was for the second time in the past twenty-four hours. Tris heads to her office and adjusts the coat in her arms. She sighs and takes a deep breath before knocking.
