"I missed you, dear," Jeanine says, engulfing Tris in a hug.

Tris doesn't respond as she presses her lips to Jeanine's.

"Ew. Adults are gross," Ella says, turning away from them.

Tris pulls away. "Sorry, kid," she whispers to her.

"Who are you?" Jeanine asks with a goofy grin on her face. She had bent down to Ella's height and was continuing to talk to her.

"I'm Ella, and Tris is watching me," she responds.

"She is, is she?" Jeanine asks, looking back at her girlfriend. Tris grins sheepishly. It was an amazing sight to see Jeanine act as she had around Ella. Tris wasn't sure if something in her had changed since the two had met, or if she always had a soft spot for young children.

Tris is brought back to the present as she notices Ella nodding her head in response to Jeanine's question.

"Hey, Ella?" Tris asks.

The girl turns to look at her. "I know he's not your favorite, but I was wondering if I could leave you with Four for a bit? I have something I need to get done, and I wouldn't want you to hang around gross adults all day, would we now," she jokes.

After some bargaining, Tris convinced the girl that Four was an acceptable babysitter and left with Jeanine.

"Gross adults, huh? Do you have some kind of grand plan?" Jeanine asks teasingly.

Tris shakes her head. "Nope. I was just trying to get her off my back for a little bit so that we could talk privately."

"What's up with the girl being so attached to you anyways?" Jeanine asks.

"Her parents died during the attack," Tris responds. "I grabbed her on our way to safety and I guess she's taken a liking to me. I'm just not sure how I'm going to tell a seven-year-old that her parents died . . ."

"I can help you with that," Jeanine offers. Tris nods.

"So what's been up with you recently?" Tris asks.

"Not much. Basically just working and worrying about you," she jokes.

Tris smiles slightly. "Aww, I'm rememberable!"

Jeanine rolls her eyes at Tris's antics. "Of course you are, dummy," she jokes.

After a moment of silence, Jeanine speaks again. "So, what are you going to do with the whole Ella thing?"

"Probably tell her the truth and then set her up with a good family. Why?"

"Just wondering, because you've talked a lot about her since I've gotten here. That's all."

"Jean, you almost sounded for a minute that you thought I was replacing you or something," Tris jokes.

Jeanine looks down at her feet. By this time, they had arrived in Tris's room. "I mean, maybe. Yeah."

Tris lets out a small chuckle and crosses the room. She sits down on her bed, and Jeanine follows suit. "I know about your past with your exes and all, but I could never replace you. I love you."

Jeanine jerks her head up. Tris and she had mostly avoided using this phrase and had shown their love for each other in other ways.

"Y-you love me?"

"Of course, Jean! I literally have a bird tattooed on my body to represent you!"

Jeanine's face turns a pinkish shade. "I mean, that makes a lot of sense. I don't know why I'm surprised about it."

"After the whole thing with Evelyn, it's understandable to not be sure of where your relationships are at," Tris says softly. The girl puts an arm around the elder blonde and uses the other hand to brush a strand of hair out of her face. "But I love you. And I always will."

"I love you too, Tris," Jeanine whispers, a small smile on her face.

A person clearing their throat from the doorway interrupts them, and Tris looks up. Jeanine doesn't bother to move, seemingly super comfortable for her head to be buried in the crook of Tris' neck

"Hey, Four. How's everything with Ella?" she asks.

"Umm . . . questionable on that front. I had to hand her off to Shauna because she didn't seem to like me nor my methods of entertainment too much. I think she mentioned something about me being too scary? I can't really remember though."

Tris sighs. "I'm sure Shauna has got it under control. Thanks for alerting me though, Four." He nods curtly before turning around and walking out of the door.

"I think you adopted a little monster," Jeanine mumbles, sounding half asleep.

Tris rolls her eyes. "First of all, I didn't adopt her . . . well, I guess I partially did."

"Exactly. You might as well take her home with us when we go cause you seem to be the only one she likes."

"You're too tired to make that decision," Tris says with a small eye roll.

Jeanine snorts. "Seconded." She pulls her head off of Tris' shoulder and falls back on the bed. Tris gets up and shuts the door before sitting down next to her.

"Don't be a cover hog tonight, Jean."

Jeanine laughs. "I'm never a cover hog. I don't know what you're talking about.

"When pigs fly," Tris jokes, snuggling up next to her.

"Yeah, I'm sure," Jeanine jokes, placing an arm around Tris.

The two sleep peacefully for their first night as reunited lovers.

The next morning, the two are loudly awakened to a knock on the door.

"What time is it?" Tris groans.

"Seven in the morning," Jeanine replies. Tris had to give her girl credit. She could ge up and look fully awake pretty quickly if she wanted to. Jeanine gets up and crosses the room before opening the door.

"Morning, Jack," Jeanine greets.

"Jeanine! Just the person I wanted to see . . ."
