Tris has stayed at Candor for three weeks by now. Jeanine would call her almost every day- now that she had a good signal- and they would catch up. The Dauntless had also decided that Tris should learn how to fight in hand-to-hand combat; For the rare occasion that she would need it of course.
Tris had reluctantly agreed, and Four had decided to teach her.
"You've improved, Tris," Four says. Tris grabs Four's fist and stops him from punching her. She deflects it and jabs him with her elbow.
"You think?" she asks. Four barely dodges her punch, and ducks underneath it.
Tris catches his arm and spins him around before tackling him to the ground.
"Yeah. I think," he says from on the ground.
"I think you ought to stop going easy on me," Tris jokes. The two fall silent as they realize Tris was laying on top of Tobias. He clears his throat, and Tris quickly rolls over.
"I'm thinking we ought to take a break for the day. What do you think?" Four asks.
"Yeah. Good idea," Tris says before walking out.
As soon as she leaves the room, the Candor alarms start to go off. Four emerges right behind her and grabs her arm. "Come with me," he says in a gruff voice.
She nods and runs after him, slightly struggling to keep up.
He pulls her into a room. Tris looks around to say everyone passed out except for a little girl crying in the corner.
"Tobias," she whispers. "I don't think it's safe here."
"Do you know what's going on?" he asks.
"Why would I know?" Tris asks.
"I don't know. Maybe because you're like besties with the Erudite faction leader. I would have assumed she would have had some plans whether or not she went through with them after you showed up."
"I know nothing about what's happening. I think it's all led by Eric." Tris seems to concentrate for a second. "There has to be something."
"Yeah, it doesn't matter right now. All that matters is that we get ourselves to safety." Tris nods and the two take off running again.
"Wait!" Tris calls out.
"What is it?"
"There was a girl back there. We can't leave her behind," Tris states stubbornly.
"I don't really think we should circle back. Who knows when Eric and his posse are coming back."
"Yeah, but we can't let her die!" Tris bursts out. Four reluctantly nods and Tris heads back to get the girl.
When she arrives, Zeke is in the room, standing in the corner. Tris puts her hands in the air. "Take the girl," Zeke says.
Tris seems very confused. "You're not going to kill me?'
"I'm a spy. I wouldn't do that."
Tris nods, grab the girl, and leaves before she can give Zeke the chance to change his mind.
She quickly catches up to where she left Four standing guard. Tris continues to attempt to calm down the girl on her way, as she was clearly in distress.
The two continue running until they reach the courts. They enter the main one and find Eric already tied up to a chair.
"Good. You're here, Four." a girl says. Tris recognized her to be Shauna. "We have Eric in custody and we were wondering what you thought we should do with him?"
