CHAPTER SIX:
"Juliet, I want to go to the toilet." Little Tom sucked his thumb.
"Again?" I tried to hide my dread. "But you just went a while ago!"
Little Tom smiled his toothy grin and shook his hips from side to side. "I need to poo poo."
"I'll bring him," Wes smirked at me, showing off that he was a better baby-sitter than I was. "Come on, Tom. Let's go to the toilet!"
I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to the three other toddlers playing in the garden. After Thomas' parents, Aunt Judie came back, bringing the rest of the friends that were due for the party. They had convieniently dumped their kids on the three supposedly mature teenagers and were now enjoying their dinner on the front porch with the setting sun throwing its glowing rays onto the bleached wood. I gave a tiny sigh as I reached out to stop Alice from picking up a pebble and breaking all her teeth by chewing it.
There were four little children in total, excluding Thomas of course. There was Little Tom, who had the "Little" stuck in front of his name because he was tiny for his age. He was about three, and had a tendancy to go to the toilet very often. Alice was a sweet two year old girl who could barely stand properly without falling over, yet she loved exploring new things by tasting them. Her mother had handed her over to me, telling me that Alice had gotten food poisoning a few times before. Go figure.
And then, there was Jerry, this hyperactive five year old who loved, like really adored trains. He had proudly announced to me that he had fifty-five train sets when he arrived, and had taken upon himself to show how fast his trains could go to Wes. Wes, also another train fanatic( I really didn't get the train thing. I mean, they were just trains!) could actually have an intelligent conversation with him. I told Wes that he probably had a five-year old maturity too, which earned me another stole on my cap. Right now, it was being held captive by him, and my hair was positively fluttering around my face like some golden halo.
Finally, there was little Susie, who was still a little baby, no more than an infant. I don't know what Mom told them, but apparently, they trusted me enough to let me take care of her while the parents had some time to relax. Right now, she was snoozing in my arms, making cute gurgling noises once in awhile.
"Thomas," I warned. "If you continue daydreaming, one of the children is going to choke herself or throw himself into the hedge playing with trains."
Thomas rolled his eyes and caught Alice as she picked up another stone and pulled her into his lap.
"Jerry, why don't you show Alice how fast your trains can go?" He called.
Jerry raced back immediately and began blabbering to Alice how amazing the wheels are and how perfect the paint coat is. Thomas looked up and smirked at me.
What was it with this two guys, I thought in half amazement, I have no idea. They seem to have a knack for annoying me, or ganging up on me actually. Thomas, I realized, was a rather nice person. He didn't have the usual attitude guys gave me because of my wacked-up personality-looks thing and I got along with him just fine, as if I knew him forever. He wasn't like Wes though. He seemed more..well, mature, and his jokes weren't about love all the time.
That made it easier for me to get along with him.
"So," He said conversationally, shifting a little closer to me. "We're going to be in the same highschool."
I nodded.
"Yep. So, you can be nice to me now, and I'll be nice and show you around tomorrow." I teased.
