Well, I'd done it!

Casey had gotten me to my house. I had showered, had breakfast and coffee, and got my suit on.

Now here we are an hour later and I'm about to climb in my car, but I'm still texting Casey.

His plans today include sitting barefoot around my apartment and not-so patiently wait for me to return.

I roll my eyes.

"Love you Casey." -Max

I climb into my car and turn it on. I sit there for a second, listening to the hum.

Suddenly my phone rings and I roll my eyes.

It's definitely Casey, I don't even bother to answer the number.

"Welcome to your first day as my assistant." Adrian's voice fills the car.

"Th-thank you sir." I stammer in surprise.

"I have a meeting from eight-thirty to ten today so you can either wait patiently by your desk or you can go talk to Katherine. She already knows your coming and she'll give you the full tour."

"Ok, sir." I say. "B-but I don't know who Katherine is."

"Right!" I hear him say and I laugh slightly as I pull the car out of my parking spot. "Katherine Pittman. She's one of my execs, her desk is on the thirty-sixth floor of the left building."

I've never been to the Silvers Towers as they're called. They're the tallest buildings in our town, smack in the middle of "downtown." Twin skyscrapers 50 floors tall with a skybridge connecting them and an underground tunnel as well, I think.

"Ok sir."

"And I want my regular order of coffee." He says and I nod, trying to remember what he'd ordered a week ago. "Tomorrow you will swing by my house and pick up my dry-cleaning, one of the staff will let you know where to go, and if you want to have your own suits washed, that's fine. It'll be free, just charge it to my card."

I nod even though he can't see it.

"Ok sir." I say, very carefully watching my words. I'm avoiding saying, "yes sir" because that's what I say to Casey. That's Casey's thing, Adrian gets "ok sir."

"Meet Katherine at eight!" He says and I nod.

"Ok sir."

He hangs up and I sigh.

Well that wasn't so bad.

I check my phone and smile.

"Love you too Max." -Casey

I sigh, already missing him, as I drive across town to the other Silvers owned café. The one I worked at burned down, so I have to go across town to get to the only other one.

My phone rings again and I glance at it, it's an unknown number.

I answer.

"Texas coroner's office. You stab 'em, we slab 'em. This is Harrison speaking, how may I help you?" I say, adopting my best Texan accent.

"Y'know, that isn't far off how they actually answer the phone." A familiar voice fills my car with a small laugh.

"Detective Delilah!" I say and instantly the song starts playing in my head. I hum it.

"Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York City? I'm a thousand miles away, but girl tonight you look so pretty."

"Y'know that song is about me, right?" She asks and my eyes widen into saucers.

"Really??" I exclaim, completely taken by surprise.

"No." She deadpans and my face falls. "And I really hate it when people sing that song around me."

"Oh... sorry." I mumble.

"We caught your burglar." She says, slicing through the bull shit. "Name is Benjamin Dray. Ring any bells?"

I close my eyes briefly before looking back at the road.

"It does." I say with a sigh. "Ben was a waiter I met, and we became-" I go silent, searching for the word. "Acquaintances. Damn and Casey said he didn't trust him!"

"Casey Isles? Why didn't he trust him?"

"Because we bumped into each other at the hospital and then again right outside my building yesterday. He must've stolen my keys then."

"You didn't think that was important information?" Detective Delilah asks, her voice low.

"S-sorry. He said he was at the hospital to visit his mother and father as they work there, and he was outside my apartment building to visit someone named Maddie who lives on the second floor. He said he was getting... y'know..." I trail off and Detective Delilah sighs.

"Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Shane!" She calls, very clearly not talking to me. "Do a search for anyone named Maddie in the apartment building, start with the second floor, and Max? It seems like he was casing your place. Casing you."

"B-but why? Nothing was stolen!" I say, still not quite able to believe that it was Ben who broke in.

"We don't know. Technically we can't get him on larceny charges because as you said, nothing was stolen, but we can get him for Breaking and Entering and we most likely have more than enough evidence to convict him."

"Thank you." I mumble.

"Anytime, it's my job." She says and I nod.

"Have a good day, detective." I say.

"You too, Frost."

Sooooo...? Were your theories correct? Did you think it was Ben?

But now I want to know why? Nothing was stolen, so what was his motive??
