I sobbed quietly the whole way back to my house. Brielle and Mrs. Graywarden were nice enough not to pry, but I still tried to be quiet about it.
The problem is it was hard.
My heart felt like it was shattering. Like it wanted nothing more to do with me and was just trying to die. Frankly, I felt the same way. I just wanted to go home and sleep. Crawl into bed and never leave.
God, I loved that bitch. But that look she had in her chocolate colored eyes when she told me to choose.
Every time I thought about it, I cried.
When Mrs. Graywarden pulled into my driveway, I stiffened.
"Thanks..." I mumbled, opening the door and stepping out.
I slowly made my way up the path to my family's town home. When I reached the door, I paused for a second, wondering if I should go in. Maybe I could sleep outside?
But when I glanced back, I noticed Brielle and her mom were still there. I realized they wouldn't leave unless I went in, so I did, gripping the doorknob like it was a fucking rope and I was hanging off a fucking cliff.
I was as quiet as I could be as I as I ascended the stairs to the main floor, but I go caught.
"Kimmie!" Miguel screamed, running up and hugging me.
"Sh! Miguel shush!" I demanded. He doesn't, continuing to laugh and blabber in that language only 3-year olds understand.
"Kim?" I hear my mother calling from the kitchen. I sigh, maybe she won't notice my face?
She noticed my face.
"Oh, my baby! My Kimberly! What happened? Why are you crying?" She cooed, turning away from the stove to assess me. My father rose from the kitchen table and went to monitor the food in her place.
"What happened Hija?" My father asks, his accent is so strong.
"I uh... fell." I winced, still unable to tell them how I felt. What I was.
"Tell your family about you... or break up with me."
Addison's words made me flinch again.
"Mom... I have something I need to tell you." I mumble quietly so only she can hear me.
She looks at me, nervous and worrying, before turning back to my dad. "Volveremos en seguida" She said to him.
Then she grabbed my wrist in a death clamp and pulled me away to the living room.
"What is it baby? Who hurt you?" She asked, pulling me towards her and hugging me.
"My... I struggle to get the word out. "Mama I... I have- had a girlfriend."
She froze, looking at me.
"You have a- a what?" She had a look I'd never seen before on her face. A mixture of horrified, disgust, and fear.
"Mama please! I'm still me, I'm still your little girl!" I plead, my voice barely a whisper.
"Not anymore you're not." She all but snarled. "Daniel!" She called.
Instantly I flinched as I heard my father's heavy footsteps.
"Sophia? You ok?" He asks, looking from my terrified face to her disgusted one. "What happened?"
"Your daughter likes women." Mom hisses with as much venom as possible.
I see a wide range of emotions cross my father's face. Fear, disgust, horror, and finally he settles on anger.
Pure, pure fury.
"Papi. Please... I'm still-"
"Get out." He said it so quietly I almost didn't hear him. When my father's angry, he explodes. This silence was almost scarier.
"Papi, wait Papi!"
"GET OUT!" Now his anger exploded, and he stepped forward, slapping me across the face.
Instantly I clutched at my face, I felt my cheek and could already tell a wicked bruise was forming.
My father grabbed my arm and nearly picked me up. He dragged me down the stairs to the front door, shaking with fury the whole time.
"Papi!" I screamed as he nearly took the door off its hinges and THREW me out onto our front porch.
"Don't come back until you're fixed." He said and spat at my feet. He turned away and slammed the door in my face.
Instantly I ran to it.
I knocked, and screamed, and cried, and begged, and banged, and eventually I got tired. I realized they weren't going to open the door.
I slumped on the doorstep, crying so hard I couldn't see.
I realized it had started raining and I shivered when the wind blew.
I kneeled on the doorstep and looked up at the sky.
"Dear lord, I hope that Miguel is straight. I hope he doesn't have to deal with this. Please lord, don't let Miguel have to go through what I have to." I prayed and collapsed.
I curled into myself and my hand tapped something in my pocket.
My phone.
I grabbed it, opening it.
I scrolled through my contacts, looking for someone to help me. When I found Addison's name I screamed and threw my phone into a bush.
"Is this what you wanted bitch??" I demanded, still sobbing. "I HATE YOU!"
I sat there, curled into a ball until the light went out on my phone. I stood and sifted through the bush to find it. It was hard with the tears, the rain, the darkness, and the wind, but I found it.
I turned it back on and checked the notifications.
There was only one text.
"We need to come clean about the money." -Casey
And that gave me an idea.
I began to walk south.
