I looked around as the light filtered through white curtains and wondered where I was.

This wasn't my bedroom; this wasn't even my parent's bedroom. Who's...?

Oh... Max's. Suddenly everything that happened last night surged back into my mind and I winced, trying to hold back tears.

I struggled to get up, my legs shaking, and I looked around. Max has a nice bedroom, I'll have to thank him for sharing.

I open the bedroom door and step into the rest of the apartment.

"Max?" I call. The tan curtains wash whole room in a light gold color. "Max?" I continue to look for him, moving from room to room.

I stop in the kitchen, looking at the yellow paper on the island.

Tears fill my eyes again but not from sadness.

"Kimberly, I had to go to work but I'll be home around 3. Feel free to stay as long as you need to, please just make sure the girls are ok.

Thanks!"

It was signed by Max.

Casey was right, none of us deserved this boy and we really did need to come clean about the money.

I pulled out my phone as I quietly walked to the girl's room.

I opened it as I opened the door.

I peeked my head in, looking around at the dark room.

The girls were still asleep, I could see their chests rising and falling, as I pulled up my message app.

"The girls are ok, still asleep."

I sent that one to Max.

"Meet me at The Diner in an hour."

That one I sent to the group chat without Max.

The Diner was an old restaurant modelled like a 60's diner. They sold pretty much anything, except seafood, and their breakfast menu was the best in town. Since 9th grade the diner had become the regular meeting spot of the group.

I turned away and shut the bedroom door.

"Wait I don't have clothes... I'll have to wear these to the restaurant..." I realized, looking down at myself and sighing.

And I'll have to walk.

Oh well... might as well start now.

I walked to the front door and put my shoes on. I opened the door and shut it behind me, wishing I could lock it.

I shoot a quick text to Iris letting her know I'm leaving and to lock the door, then I turn away and walk to the elevator.

Again, this chapter is pretty short but the next one will be longer. Promise!
