We ran for the closest shelter, which happens to be the gazebo by the pool.

"We're soaked." He grinned.

"I noticed," I responded, looking down at my dress.

We were still standing very close to each other, so close I could feel his breath against my neck. I cleared my throat and stepped away from him, walking to the other side of the gazebo. I looked down at the single bench and decided it would be best to stand.

I looked up at the sky, where the single dark cloud hovered over us. Talk about perfect timing. I've never loved the rain as much as I love it now. I just save me from answering that question.

I inhaled the earthy aroma of the rain and smiled. I said a silent prayer to God thanking for the rain.

"You didn't answer the question."

I guess the rain can't stop a man from getting an answer.

I lifted my head to enchanting grey eyes and contemplated if should answer his question. Not answering it would still give him the answer.

"You," I answered honestly.

I expected him to laugh or even smile, but his face held no emotions. He turned his head towards the pool and kept his eyes on the waterfall.

Now I want to scream.

If he had laughed, I would have felt so much better but not knowing what he's thinking is tearing my mind apart.

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke.

"Tiffany," he began, "what happened last night..."

I cut in a hurry. "Can't happen again. For heaven's sake, Bradley. We have nothing in common."

Absolutely nothing.

"Agreed," he said, exhaling on a rush of relieved breath. Half smiling, he added, "You're not exactly my type."

Well, that hurt.

But I always knew the truth. A man like him would never date a woman like me.

"And you're not the kind of man I would feel comfortable taking home to a family dinner."

I shuddered at the thought. My black father was not racist, but I'm 100% sure he would prefer me dating someone my own race.

He flinched.

Good.

We're making progress now.

Obviously, he had been doing a lot of thinking about this, too. And apparently, he had reached the very same conclusions. No matter how exciting...how tempting sex with him might be, it simply couldn't happen.

There was no future in it, and I refused to set myself up for a broken heart. "So we understand each other?" he asked and took a step closer.

"Of course," My mouth went dry as I moved toward him.

My heart pounded against my rib cage, and my blood thundered in my ears. "You and I have no business even thinking about being together."

"Absolutely not."

"The whole idea was ridiculous. "

"I'm not interested in love or anything else that comes tied up in a neat little package," Bradley grumbled. "At least not yet."

His gaze moved over me, and I shivered in response. "I don't believe casual sex."

I wanted someone to love, someone to love me.
