Bradley's POV

When we reached the stables, Ebony was standing by her stall as I predicted.  I opened the stall for her, and she walked in; then I did the same for Cloudy.

After sealing both horses safely in their stall, Tiffany looked at me,  "What do we do now?" she asked.

I didn't need to look behind me; the rain was gushing on the roof of the stable. We were stuck here; if we try to make a run for it, we would probably end up falling because the place was moody and wet.

I looked around the stables then back at her, "Well, we could stay in one of the stalls until the rain calms down." She frowned, so I spoke quickly, "They're all cleaned out. No horses other than Ebony and Cloudy have been in this stable for over a year. There might be hays in the stalls, though."

She looked down at her wet clothes and shrugged, "It doesn't get worse than this, so we might as well. Lead the way."

I started walking to the back of the stable with Tiffany close behind. I opened the gates of the last stall and mentioned Tiffany. She walked into the stall and took a seat on the ground, and leaned on a stack of hay.

I lifted a stack of hay then placed it to her left. I took a seat on the ground then leaned on the hay.

"Not how I planned on spending my day," Tiffany said as she looked down at her wet clothes that now had hay all over them.

"I'm sorry. I didn't check the weather."

She shrugged, "It's not your fault. You can't control the weather. When we left the weather, the sky was clear, and no dark clouds were in sight."

"That's true, but I should have checked. Can't plan the perfect day without checking the weather."

She reminded silent for a few seconds, then a smile came to her face, "When I was in elementary school, I thought I could control the weather with my emotions." I raised my eyebrows at her; she started to explain, "Well, whenever I was happy, the sun was always shining, and when I was sad, the rain would suddenly start falling." She grinned, "I think it stemmed from me watching too much x-men. I wanted to be like the only black girl superhero in the movie.

I smiled at her, "That's sweet. I've never really believed I have any powers, but when I was eighteen, my family when on vacation in Columbia. My younger brothers found an old scroll at the beach, and they brought it back to the hotel. I was not pleased. I told them to return it, and they left the hotel and went back to the beach. When they returned, they still had the scroll; I was extremely pissed. I'm the older brother; they should have listened to me. Then Caleb started reading something from the scroll. I think it was Latin, or maybe it was gibberish." I chuckled. "When Caleb was finished reading the scroll, my other brothers started to looking around,  asking for me. I was confused because I was right in front of them. Long story short, the little bastards made me believe that I was invisible and they had even got mom and dad to play along."

She threw back her head and laughed out loud.

I don't remember ever thinking that the joke my family pulled on me was hilarious; I was pretty pissed off when I found out they were pranking me. But looking back on the experience, I can't help laughing.  Tiffany's laugh was too contagious not to.

I laughed until I lost my breath.

Tiffany tried to compose herself, but every time another gale burst from me, she joined in.  My eyes began to water, and my cheek muscles ached. Gradually our laughter subsided.

Tiffany sighed aloud. Tears sparkled on her black lashes and winked from the outer corners of her eyes.

I raised my arm, and her eyes closed as my thumb brushed the glistening drops from the lashes of one eye and then the other.
