I frowned. "Where are you taking me?'
Bradley glanced at me with a smirk. "I promise I'm not trying to kidnap you again. Just be patient with me. It's a surprise."
I sighed. I usually like surprises but when it came to driving in a car with Bradley things never end well.
"You're going to love it. I promise."
"Hmm.." I murmured. Surprisingly the lunch turned out really well. Bradley managed to swoon both my parents, especially when he offered to pay for everyone's meal. Gentleman, was the words my mother used to describe him. I sighed. If only they knew that this was all a charade. Now I'll have to come up with a story as to why Bradley and I 'broke up'.
"Can you at least tell me where we're going?" We were currently driving through the tunnel.
"Downtown Manhattan." he smiled. "We'll be there in less than thirty minutes."
I shrugged, "Okay." I placed my head on the window and stared at the white walls of the tunnel.
"Hmm..so how was your week?" Bradley asked breaking the silence.
I couldn't possibly tell him I spent the entire week hating him for how he left things unsaid. Hating him for throwing money in my face. "It was okay," I responded without looking up. "Yours?"
"Work, as usual," he answered. "I understand now."
I frowned at his incomplete statement. "Understand what?"
"How you must have felt being discriminated against. You had every right to be angry, every right to go on Twitter and share your feelings. It's a free country after all. You shouldn't apologize for defending yourself, culture or ethnicity."
I turned to look at him and frowned. "Are you saying that I shouldn't have apologized for making your company lose clients?"
He shook his head, "No, I'm saying, you had every right to do what you did. We lost a few clients and no doubt pissed off thousands of people but we learned from it. You see, my father took the necessary precautions to make sure something like that never happens again. And I'm sure other companies have learnt from our mistakes. I'm sorry."
"Apology accepted."
"Don't get me wrong, I don't have a once of regret for kidnapping you." he looked into my eyes and smiled. "That week was amazing in more ways than one."
I shrugged. "It was okay." It didn't want to boost his confidence too much. There is no way I can help him know the impact the week we spent together had on me.
"It was more than okay and you know it too." he glanced back at the road. "I couldn't stop thinking about you all week. I could barely concentrate on anything." He chuckled. "I see grass and my mind instantly goes to the day we sat on the grass."
I turned my face to the window and blushed like a high schooler.
For heaven's sake Tiffany, stop acting like a love-sick teenager.
"It's really good to see you again."
I didn't respond. How could I? I was finally getting to hate him when he made his grand appearance at my apartment today. And just one, one lunch date and he's managed to make me start thinking up crazy fantasies of us together.
"I meant that," he whispered and gave me one last look before turning his attention back to the road.
The rest of the drive was silent until he turned into the pie. I flashed him a look then looked back at the East River. "Where are we going?" I was never a keen boat lover. The smell of seawater made me sick.
