8. Black Dahlia

We stop a young Haircut from running into the woods. "Ray, hold on."

"How do you know my name?" He asks Zari, since Zari said that.

"It's a long, mostly-irritating story. The only thing that matters is, we're here to save your life." She says.

He crawls through a hole in the fence around his house. "No, you want Gumball. Well, you can't have him."

"Yeah, what kind of name is that?" I ask, not really seeing the relevance.

He doesn't reply, he just runs away.

Which causes Zari to sigh. "And I thought grown up Ray was annoying."

I chuckle at her remark and follow the boy. She kind of reminds me of myself when I joined the Legends.

When we see young Haircut again, I try to reason with him. "Come on kid, you don't want to be alone with that thing."

"You don't know him. We're friends." He replies, running further into the woods.

"You're friend's is gonna kill you!" Zari shouts.

He doesn't stop and we eventually lose him. "If I don't do it first." Zari mumbles. I chuckle at her antics, because I'm sure that she'll eventually turn into a big softie. That's just what happens on the Waverider.

After searching the woods, we find a tent-like castle. There's a sign in front of it saying 'Camelot'.

"Hey, we know you're in there." I say.

We hear the older Haircut over the comms. "Oh, good. You found us."

The young him appears through the opening with a branch that he's using as a sword. "You shall not pass."

"There's no time for make-believe." Zari tells him. "You are in actual danger."

"Step down, you knaves." He replies.

I roll my eyes in response. Older him is heard over the comms again. "Zari, Kate, think like a kid. You just have to play along."

I shake my head. "Not a chance."

Zari does give it a shot. "We're here from a neighboring kingdom to speak to Sir Galahad."

"And?" He asks.

She looks at me, urging me to say it. I swallow my pride and do so. "And Sir Gumball."

"Yeah, good. That's good. Keep going." Older Haircut encourages.

We bow. "It's an honor, my lieges." Zari says.

A helicopter light shines on young haircut and the Dominator, who just made an appearance out of the backpack. A voice comes from the helicopter. "Got him! I repeat, subject has been located."

"You lied to me!" Young Haircut shouts.

I ignore him and look if we can escape. I don't get the chance though, because I feel a needle in my arm. Which causes me to fall asleep.

I wake up in some sort of cell. I see Zari is here too, along with a mysterious other woman. Zari still isn't up yet, but I check her pulls to make sure she isn't dead, which she thankfully isn't.

In the meantime, the woman is doing her best not to stare at me, but failing miserably. "Do I have something on my face?" I ask.

"Yeah, you have a red dot painted on your nose." She replies.

I wipe my nose, but I don't feel any paint and there's nothing to see on my hand.

She smiles proudly. "I made you touch your nose."
