The kid, Haircut and I are locked in a freakin' cage. This would never have happened with the Time Bureau. But it's exciting, so it's fine...
P.T. Barnum is talking to us, but I'm not paying that much attention to him. "The loss of my saber-toothed tiger was indeed a blow. But the fates have smiled upon me again because the 'Great Invisible Force', the 'God of Fire' and the 'Incredible Shrinking Man' have joined my troop."
Haircut stands up. "I think we've had a slight misunderstanding."
Barnum just continues. "And I'm truly grateful that you have not used your special abilities to try to escape."
It's hard to break out of a cage with invisibility...
"Special abilities? Man, like I told you before, that was just the liquor talking." Kid says.
I nod in agreement.
"He's right, okay? My friends and I are just regular plain ole foke from 1870." Haircut confirms
Barnum is still smiling. "Dishonesty is not your strongest suit, my good man. I saw what your friend did. That was no trick. And he says you three are capable of wonders just as marvelous. So, chop, chop. Don't be shy."
I'm staying quiet during all of this, mostly focussed on not losing my temper. Also on Destiny a little, because this is her first time on the Waverider and I'm already missing.
In the meantime, kid tries to reason with the man. "We can't."
Barnum doesn't believe him of course. "Ah, poppycock."
Haircut confirms it. "He's right. He can't fire up without his partner, who's not here. And I can't shrink without my exosuit. Also not here."
I decide to speak up now too, looking at him coldly. "And I can turn invisible, but I won't. And the second I get out of this cage, I'm gonna skin you alive, slowly. Until you die in a pain beyond your imagination."
He shivers, but then shrugs it off, clearly not believing me.
"So, you might as well just let us go 'cause we're obviously useless." Kid says.
"Totally useless." Haircut adds.
Kid gestures to me. "And Kate won't do all those horrible things to you, right?"
I nod, hopefully. But Barnum still doesn't let us go. "Don't worry. I'll make marvels out of you yet."
---
I can't stop laughing! This is just too hilarious! Haircut and the kid are dressed up as conjoined twins. They look ridiculous!
P.T. Barnum tried to turn me into a ballerina, but stopped when I almost killed him. Now I'm in handcuffs, enjoying the expression on the faces of my teammates.
Haircut gives me an indignant look. "Kate! The first rule of the Bro Code is that you don't laugh when your friend gets dressed up as a conjoined twin by P.T. Barnum in a circus in 1870."
I do my best to stop laughing. "Sorry, sorry. I'm done."
I don't comment about how that definetly isn't the first rule of the Bro Code and about how I'm not a guy, because it wouldn't do me any good.
Not much later, Amaya and Nate appear in front of the cage. Amaya is talking to someone on the comms. "Oh, they're stuck together all right. P.T. Barnum has them dressed up as conjoined twins."
I run towards the front of the cage. "Is Destiny here?"
"No, she's still on the ship." Nate replies. I sigh in relief and sit back down again.
