the morning after her birthday, phoebe sat in the parking lot of dunkin' donuts where she just bought herself some breakfast. she was already running a few minutes late for therapy, but she knew she'd get a pass. the adrenaline from last night was still present in her body as she never felt anything like this before. at least not in a long time.

noticing the time, she quickly backed out of the lot and drove over to the offices across the street. although phoebe had been living like a night owl lately, she always preferred mornings more. something about the morning breeze and the watching the sunrise always calmed her down after her routine of sleepless nights.

phoebe got out of her car and walked into the beige office building with her coffee in hand. she wore her usual outfit of a pair of sweats and a hoodie as she opened the glass door and over to the front desk where she signed in.

she said good morning to the lady at the front desk before taking her seat in the waiting room. although she was running a few minutes late when she left the house, she made sure she'd be on time for her appointment today. it was one of her new year's resolutions to be on time to anywhere or anything, and she intended on trying to do just that.

"phoebe?" a lady with dark brown curly hair, about 5'7", wearing a sage cardigan and khaki pants walked out into the waiting room. in attempts to dry the sweat off her hands on her pants, phoebe got up and went over to the lady.

"happy new year dear." angela smiled. angela , phoebe's therapist, has had phoebe in her care ever since she was sixteen years old.

"happy new year to you too." the girl smiled kindly as the two walked into phoebe's favorite room in her office- the greenhouse. green was always her favorite color, it was also angela's. it's one of the first things they had in common that first day she walked into her office.

the greenhouse was exactly what it sounded like. it was originally called the greenroom, but once angela insisted on adding more plants, it became the greenhouse. it was the only room in her office that wasn't painted. the old wooden paneled walls were old and bare, but looked timeless when the sun shined through the window.

there were hanging plants in 2 corners of the room opposite from each other, and every visit phoebe would water them before she would take her seat on the cream couch at the center of the room. so that's what she did, phoebe took the small, metal watering can off the corner side table and watered the plants.

"so how was your holidays?" angela asked her while taking a seat in her brown leather arm chair. phoebe kept walking around the room and watering all the plants. she liked having something to do while talking, it kept her mind busy and distracted her from the thought of having to focus on the conversation at hand.

"it was great, i had a good time."

seeing the smile on her face, angela knew she meant what she said. "well i'm glad, you'll have to tell me all about it."

"oh and before i forget," she pulled out a gift bag from behind her chair and placed it on the coffee table in front of her. "this is for you. happy birthday phoebe."

the girl looked at the sage colored bag as a smiled curled up one her face, "you didn't have to get me anything ang."

"you say that every year, it's small don't worry." phoebe took a seat on the couch and placed the bag on her lap. "well open it, i wanna see your reaction."

following her directions, phoebe took off the white and baby yellow tissue paper to see the candle in angela always has burning in her office. she always intended on getting one for herself, but always forgot and never got around to doing so.
