Chapter 15 - leap of faith

"Gray" I spoke quietly and tried not to let my voice break, as I had a knot on my throat and could feel an anxiety attack coming "can you take me out of here"

"Out of the water?" He pulled away from the hug to face me directly

"Out of their sight. I'm..." I was embarrassed even tho no one there knew better about my anxiety than Gray. Not even Kyle cause all my attacks used to happen when he would leave

"I'm having a panic attack" Gray just nodded and pulled me by my hand. I couldn't see where I was going cause of the tears, but we were now leaving the water and walking on sand. We walked for a bit and I just focused on controlling my breathing

Sometimes I would trip on sticks or other stuff on the floor and Gray would hold me tight so K didn't fall

"D-did the see us leave?" I let out

"No (y/n) they were all doing their own thing don't worry. Just focus on getting better, I'm here for you" he said calmly, which helped

"Here, you can sit down" and I did, I grabbed my knees and just focused on my breathing exercises ignoring the numbness on my limbs, the ringing on my ears and the fogginess of my brain.

It all came down eventually and I was able to be myself again. I noticed I was sitting between Grayson's legs on the sand, away from the others. He had his head resting on my back and his hands held my arms gently

He felt like my guardian angel

"So sorry I ruined the fun... Just got a bit overwhelmed because of Kyle" I apologised

"You didn't ruin anything. Are you feeling better?" I nodded "so sorry (y/n), you deserve better" he looked down, like he was apologizing for Kyle's bullshit

"I do have better" I don't even know where that came from but it wasn't a lie. I turned and hugged him tight, memories of the first time we met filling my memory for the feeling was the same as this "thank you Gray"

"No worries. I'm here for you" he let go of me a bit, just enough to see my face, we were really close now. He wiped my tears while I admired those beautiful hazel eyes. Why did this feel so wrong but so right? His lips were so puffy and red, the were half open as he was concentrated on what he was doing

They were calling for me, I felt myself leaning the tinniest bit, just in hopes he would want this too. I close my eyes and let myself enjoy the moment, expecting to feel his lips touch mine soon

"Do you feel like swimming?" He asked, completely oblivious of my intentions and thank God he did, this would have ruined us

"Hell yeah" we started walking back, it was still a few minutes away, he really took me far like I asked.

"So, tomorrow is your special day..." He started with the biggest smile on his face and a lot of excitement in his voice
"We have everything prepared and I can't wait for it to be honest, do you feel excited?"

"I am yeah, thank you for taking care of everything Gray, means a lot" I was so happy they decided to do this since my family wouldn't be able to spend it with me this year.

I was supposed to go to Portugal, but they told me weeks ago they had a lot of work with their business and my sisters were super busy in school so they wouldn't be able to give me as much attention as they wanted to. They didn't tell me to not go but the suggested I stayed with my friends, so I decided to stay.

Made me a little sad but then the twins immediately scheduled the trip and it all worked out.

"It's my first birthday without my family" I told him "but I'm glad it's with you guys" I smiled at him

"(Y/n)!! Gray!! Come check this out!" Ethan's yells echoed all around and we rushed to them

Him and Kristina had found baby turtles and Kyle was recording while Kayla was in her towel sun bathing

"So cute!!" Gray took some in his hand and he saw me struggling to pick one up cause I was scared to hurt them

"Here" he said putting one in my hand

"Well I'm gonna call you Raphael, after the ninja turtle" Gray raised an eyebrow and laughed but I continued "cause just like Gray here he yells a lot and even had rage issues sometimes"

"True" Ethan said in the back

"But he has a heart of gold, and some nice abs" they were all laughing at this point and mocking me, and I could be wrong but I think Gray blushed a little.

We spent hours there that seemed like minutes, cause we were having so much fun. Gray taught me how to do that side flip they always do. I didn't always manage to land it but I got the technique down.

We then jumped from the cliffs into the water

"Oh this is just practice Kris" Gray told her when she was scared "we're gonna do much worse than this one and we're gonna do it at night"

"Fuck no" I told him "I might have swam with you at night but that's about it and even that was terrifying" I told him

"I could tell cause you wouldn't let go of me" he mocked

"I see your nights have been busy too" I heard Kyle's voice from behind me

"Da fuck did you say?" I turned back really angry, not believing the words this mf was speaking. He just looked at me waiting for me to get mad but I turned around as if nothing had happened and kept saying something to them about cliff dicing, while they all looked at me very concerned

I felt his hand touch my arm and heard him begin to speak a word and I was ready to shut him off when Gray grabbed his hand firmly. His face was very neutral, he didn't look mad nor happy

"Kyle, the only reason you came with us is because we thought you could keep our professional relationship besides what happened between you two. (Y/n) is our friend and you work for us, we're paying you to be here. So, if you think you can, stick to your job and more importantly, leave my friend, who you broke up with, the fuck alone" Gray said very calmly but with confidence

"Whatever" kyle whispered and picked up his camera filming the turtles still in Ethan's hand. Gray looked at me and winked

I liked it because he didn't focus on defending me, cause I am capable of doing that, and instead focused on his responsibility towards the twins, as their employee. Of course it helped me but he phrased it perfectly and I was kinda proud

I took his hand and squeezed it tight to show him I was thankful without using words.

He just kept on surprising me, even after a year and a half of a friendship. The rest of the day was fun, I even forgot about the unwanted in there but somehow they still were included in conversation

Even kristina put aside her anger and cheat chatted with Kayla, just out of politeness. We spent so much time there, it started getting dark and we decided to go up the trail before it was dangerous.

"(Y/n) go in front of me, that way if you slip I'll catch you" Gray told me and so I did. It was more even harder now and my feet kept slipping but nothing serious.

"I can't get up there" I was trying but the dirt would make me slip and my arms were too tired to hang on properly

Gray went ahead and hopped over and then pulled me. We stood there, awfully close, as he was making sure I was alright to keep going "we can stop for a bit, going up is always hard" he assured

"I think I'm good" I told him kinda lost in my thoughts of admiration towards him and he smirked at my slow speech

"You tired lazy fuck" he hugged me spontaneously, just a quick one arm hug, while his other arm held onto a tree and then let go and held my hand offering support

"C'mon I got you, we're almost there" I finally left the zombie like state I was in and started climbing up again. We got to the top first and waited for them while eating cookies I had brought "damn these are good" he said with his mouth full and I laughed at him

This was just perfect...
