Opening my eyes in my dream, I was in a plane white hallway with no end in sight. Really, I just assumed it was a hallway because I literally couldn’t see anything. I started walking, but a few seconds later, everything flashed black, then subsided to a medium grey. I looked around, but I couldn’t see any cause for the sudden change. “What the fuck?”
I continued walking for a while, hoping I wouldn’t run into a wall of anything, when, in the distance, I saw the outlines of two people. They seemed to notice me, too, as they started running towards me, but as soon as I started to be able to make out their features, they disappeared, and the walls around me melted into a motley of colours, until they finally subsided into a place I knew instantly. I place where I shouldn't be. Olympus.
“Fucking protean walls. Why the fuck am I here?” I started to look around until I realised that I was wearing a pure white and gold toga, and so was most everyone around me. This really irked the fuck out of me.
Having no clue what to do, I started walking until I found Mr. All Mighty. He smiled at me. “Come, come. We were just discussing what we should do for Juno’s birthday.” Confused, I looked behind him to see Ligeia and Salem huddled close.
Salem looked at me with panic in his eyes, and I suddenly felt very covetous. It took me a couple seconds to realise that I was still in a dream and needed to save Sale. You need to remember. Save him, and get out.
I’ll help. I heard the other voice in my head, and I smiled.
You’re still intact?
As long as you are, I always will be.
Suddenly, Jup made an extremely raucous cough to get my attention back. “You seem off today, Mel. What’s up?”
Holding back my anger, I shook my head. “Just a little tired.”
Ligeia nodded in understanding, as if that was perfectly normal. I studied her for a second to see how smitten she was being with Salem. It was a lot, even for Lara, and not Ligeia.
I knew I couldn’t grab Salem right now, so, having nothing better to do, I went to take a shower to pass time. As the water sluiced my face, I started to notice the air becoming sultry. Feeling like I was going to dry heave, I got out.
I snooped around until I found Ligeia trying to give Salem a bunch of silent innuendos. He sighed. “Stop the iniquity, please.”
She glared at him, her undulated breath getting more ragged. He caved. “Sorry, Larabar,” he crooned.
She looked as if his apology was scant, but she smiled in a very provocative way.
I went on with the rest of my day seeing through a gauzy fog. As I was about to lay down and start some writing, I heard seething yelling from outside. I went out to see Ligeia and Salem making a lot of jeering gestures at each other. It took me nearly twenty minutes to calm them down, and I had to keep plying Ligeia with random sweets and drinks to shut her up.
I think she finally realised what I was doing, because she threw the tumbler I had been giving her drinks in on the floor and started leering at me. “Why are you being so weird? What happened?”
I didn’t really know how to respond, considering I didn’t know how I was supposed to act. Frustrated, I turned and left, going back to my room and falling asleep.
When I woke up, there was a heady smell of food in the air. After getting breakfast, I sat down on the coarse blanket that I set down on my bedroom floor in a failed attempt to make it softer. Taking a bit of the food, I grimaced and forgoed eating the rest of it. “The crass assumptions they make of how food is supposed to taste.”
I went outside to find Jupiter giving a panegyric about Juno. I whirled around to face nothing and glared. “Ms. Writer. Please stop using such verbose words.”
*Glances at the sentence she just used.
“Shut the fuck up and stop it.”
*Sheesh. Okay. No go back to saving Salem.
I suddenly remembered about Salem. I had completely forgotten. This dream is really getting to me, and I hate it.
Looking around the crowd, I found Salem sitting on a bench on the outskirts of the crowd. I started walking towards him, but then Ligeia and I saw each other. She ran towards him with her cat o’ nine tails in her hand, and I pulled out my sword, doing the same.
We got there at the same time, and she tried to hit me with her whip, but I knocked it away. After a few more failed hits and stabs, I manage to cut off the tips of all her whips. She looked shocked, and I used this as my opportunity to get a good hit in.
I stabbed her in the gut, and the second her blood came in contact with my sword, two things happened. First, I got more energised as I absorbed her essence as she died. Second, from the point of entry, her blood started to slowly turn solid, both killing her and strengthening my sword.
I yanked my sword out and grabbed Salem’s arm. The second I did, the walls started to change again, but instead of waking up, we were now in my bedroom in Pluto’s Palace.
Salem turned to me, face sickly pale. “What the fuck did your sword just do?”
I shrugged. “It solidified her blood, killing her.”
“How!?”
I smiled. “My prized possession. You can’t tell anyone what I’m about to say, but my sword isn’t made of the regular magic metals. It’s made of a substance so rare that my sword is the first to have existed in millions of years. It’s made of god's blood.” He looked shocked, but I continued. “After killing a bunch of gods, you gather all of their blood and mold it like you would iron or steel. You just have to add a little bit of magic, a few drops of your own blood so that the magic will only work for you, for anyone else it would kill them if they used it, and you have to forge it with hellfire.”
He looked both ecstatic and scared. “So what do you call it?”
“Well, it’s a dragonbone greatsword with god’s blood metal, so I kind of just gave up on a style and named it Adria. It has a Latin origin, and it means dark one, or girl with black eyes.” I pointed to my black, because I was currently pissed off, eyes, and he nodded.
Just as he started to say something else, there was a knock on the door. It opened to reveal… my mother? “Hey sweetie,” she said. “It’s time for dinner. Salem, will you be joining us again tonight?”
Playing along, we both nodded. When she left, I turned to him. “Well fuck. We’re still in a dream, but why?”
He thought for a second before his eyes widened. “I thought it was just my dream, but in the white endless hall, Andy appeared and turned the walls black and grey.”
“So you two were the ones running towards me. Makes sense. But I didn’t realise he would be coming here.”
“I don’t know, but if we want to find anything, we better go downstairs.”
I nodded in agreement, and we shadowed downstairs. Walking to the dining room, I saw a bunch of people sitting at the table. My mother and Pluto were sitting at the end, being extremely touchy feely. Beside them, a few chairs down, were Nico and Hazel. Across from them were Andy and Malik, and next to them sat Kae. The two chairs next to him were open, I assumed for Salem and I to sit in.
I sat down next to Kae, and he instantly threw his arm around me and smiled. “Hey, baby.”
It took all I had to not choke and blast him with hellfire. “Hey.”
Well, he just touched you, so he isn’t a real part of this dream.
I noticed. We’ll just have to find him another way, but for now, we need to get Andreus.
After the world’s most awkward dinner, I tried to get to Andy, but he kept walking away from me. Eventually, Malik walked up to me. “He’s still pissed at you. Just give him some space.”
After a short pause, I nodded, trying to figure out what this stupid fucking dream made me do. “Okay. I’ll talk to you later.”
I walked over to Salem. “Do you have any clue about what I apparently did to piss off Andreus?”
“Yeah, actually. I heard Nico and Haze talking about it. Apparently, you took away his shadowing privileges for a month for burning your garden.”
“Wait what? I can’t do that. That’s a violation of moral law. And I don’t have a garden, only Pro—“ I stopped. “Proserpina isn’t here, so the garden must be mine. That would make sense. But since when can I take away his shadowing privileges. Like, I understand ability, but privileges?”
Just then, my dad walked up to me. “We need you, Princess.”
I hadn’t heard that in a while. It confused me, but I went with them into the throne room to see three thrones. What the fuck?
“Sit,” my mother said. “We need a family photo with the queen in training.”
My eyes widened, when suddenly I heard an abnormal voice in my head. Dreams are the realities you missed out on when you were born. Quit being so shocked, because everything here you want, and you could’ve had in another life.
I grimaced. Fuck off and let me save Andreus.
No.
