Melaena P.O.V.

I nodded. I looked around to see I was in the all too familiar throne room of my father. I lived here every other day with my father, the opposite days in the Mansion of Night with my mother, until I got my powers when I was eight. Then they decided to send me to Camp Juiter and train me there at night. Now, I only come here every other weekend. I was supposed to come over in two days, as I was with my mother last weekend, and next thing I know, dad’s gone missing.
I look over at my companion, waiting for her to do something, but she doesn’t. She just keeps looking around, waiting for me to make the first move, I assume.

Granting her wish, I walk over and sit down on my dad’s throne. She looks shocked, but I do this literally all the time. Ringing the bell next to it, I wait a minute until Prosperpina walks in. She smiles at me, then looks at Laraline, trying to decide if she likes her or not. Before she gets a chance to, though, I grab her attention. “So, I hear dad’s missing. You having fun?”
She sighed, sitting down next to me. “I was, until I heard the news that they wanted you two to rule. They really think I can’t do it myself!”

I looked at her with my version of sympathy. “Sorry.”

“Oh, I don’t blame you. They want “bloodline ruling”, she said with finger quotes and an annoyed voice. She really only talks like this, informally, when she’s super upset. “I know you can rule, but I don’t know about her.” She mumbled, looking at Laraline.

Getting up, I give her a hug. “Thanks. You’re one of the few fucking good gods this world has. I’ll make sure she doesn’t mess anything up.”

“Hey!” I suddenly hear from behind me. I turn to see my companion-Laraline- looking very annoyed. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on here, or why you’re so close with Persephone, since she hates all children of Hades, but I won’t mess anything up.”

“Uh huh.” Prosperpina mumbled.

“Right. Anyway,” she said, turning back to me. “Melaena, you already know where your room is, obviously, but can you choose a room for Laraline? I need to go tell Jupiter that you’re ready to learn about the quest.”

I nodded. After about twenty minutes of walking, I open the door to a room. Laraline walks in, gasping. “It’s huge.” She walks over and sets her stuff down, quickly suppressing her shock again. We walk for another twenty minutes until we get to my room. After seeing Laraline's face after she saw how big my room was, I threw my bag on the bed and shadow traveled to the throne room again.
Laraline looked at me, annoyed. “If you can shadow travel, then why the fuck did we have to walk all the way to our rooms?”

I smirked. “Because I like walking.” I could tell how hard she was biting her tongue, and I loved it.

I walked over and stared into the fire for a minute until I felt a presence behind me. I turned around to see Prosperpina and Jupiter, Laraline walking over to us. “So, are you gonna tell us why we have a prophecy to rule the Underworld yet, or are you just gonna let us wonder?”

“Have either of you unpacked your bags yet?”

“No,” Laraline and I replied simultaneously.

“Good, because you aren't going to be fully here. Even though I know that you’ve turned into your godly forms before, I’m now giving you permission to do so. You need to keep as much of your consciousness as you need to rule here, which I know will be a lot less for Melaena than Laraline, and the rest of your consciousness will be on a quest. Here, you need to be in your godly form to rule, but you still have to hide that you're gods on the quest, since you're questing with demigods.”
Laraline and I both grunted, tilting our heads back in annoyance. We looked at each other. Well, that’s one thing we have in common. Mutual hate for most mortals.
