I Really Just Can't Catch A Break, Can I?

“Stop it. You’re melting the fucking snow. We’ll get you out.” Will stopped using his powers for a second, but then started again. I turned to Kae. “We need to hurry. He’s gonna freeze if he stops using his powers, but he’s gonna melt everything if he doesn’t.”
Opening my backpack, I pulled out an ice chisel. Kae and I worked at the block for a good twenty minutes before giving up, having gotten absolutely nowhere. I then tried a hair dryer, but that didn’t work, either. Last resource, I pulled out a blowtorch. I made the ice cube smaller, but it still wouldn’t melt enough.
Suddenly, Kae pulled me to the side. “Kere, stop for a fucking second! I have an idea.”
“What? We’re wasting valuable time.”
“He doesn’t know my powers. We can use your powers and pretend they’re mine.”
I gave him a questioning look. “What power?”
“Hear me out?” He asked, putting his hands up cautiously. “We shock the ice.”
“How the fuck do you expect us to do that?”
“He’s fighting cold with warmth. You have some control over the cold, so you can get the ice so cold it can’t stop the melting anymore.”
I nodded. Smart. “Let’s do it.”
Walking over to Will, I gave him my ‘don’t worry’ look, which seemed to make him worry more. “Will. Calm the fuck down. Kae is going to shock the ice.” He looked confused. “Just trust us.”
Standing behind Kae, he pretended to aim the cold at the ice while I discreetly did it from behind it. I mean, it’s not like you could see the cold, so that was helpful.
Suddenly, the ice stopped its weird bubbling thing it had been doing. I nodded, and Will started burning at the ice. After about ten minutes, he was finally free. “How in Hades name did you manage to find me?” He asked.
“We’ve already found Goldy at Aeolus' Palace, and Nidian in Death Valley, California. We have our ways.” I told him. “And before you even ask, because I’m already fucking sick of introduction. This is Mr. Kit-Kat Kae over here.”

----------------------------------------------------

After warm clothes, hot chocolate, and lots of nectar for major/minor frostbite, we sent Will back to Larlem.
“What’re we doing now, Señora Dictator?”
I shot him one of my infamous glares. “First, we are both going to turn into our godly forms, because I know from last time we met that you have one, though I didn’t realise it was you.”
He looked down at his hands nervously. “Yeah… Sorry I didn’t mention that. It’s not really normal, a demi having a godly form.”
“Yeah. Well, your mother is a Parcae, so she probably turned you into a minigod when you were born.”
“Wait?” He stopped. “I’m a minigod? What even is that?”
I gawked. “You didn’t know. Well, you’re a god born mortal. You were given your godly powers, but what makes you different is you’re still partially mortal, just not much. Really, you’re just a bit easier to kill, but still hard since you are a god. But anyway, and then,” I continued. “We’re going to visit Proserpina. I haven’t heard anything from her in a while.”
He nodded and transformed. I was shocked to see how much he looked exactly the same. The same long-haired left swoop with right part and short sides haircut, with the same obsidian black hair. Same claret red eyes, and same pale skin. Really, the only difference was the height, obviously, he was way more muscled than he was before, (which he was very muscled before) but not in an obnoxious way, and his clothes. Instead of his regular black skinny jeans, black sneakers, black shirt with a single white music note on it, and bleach washed, black denim jacket, he was wearing a black cloak with black fur outlining it, a small (but I knew real) skull as the clasp, and black, semi-fancy combat boots. I couldn’t tell what was under the cloak because, probably due to magic, even when he brought out his hands,  it still always stayed closed.
Shaking my head, I transformed. Shadowing us fully to the Underworld, the first thing I saw was Proserpina laying in the middle of the throne room floor, unconscious.
Running over, I shook her, but she wouldn’t wake up. I tried to call Lara, but I felt that she was blocking me out, so I turned to Kae. “Get some ice water!”
“What? Will that work?”
“Let’s find out. Go.”
A minute later he shadowed back to me with a bucket of ice water, and dumping it on Proserpina’s head, she jumped up. “What that—?”
“You were unconscious. What happened?”
It took her a second to focus on the fact that I was there, but once she did, she got up and looked around nervously. “He was here. Pluto. I was so happy, but then I saw the grim look on his face. As I started to walk towards him, I saw him mouth ‘sorry,’ and then I felt a sharp pain in my head, and everything went black.”
“It’s not very easy to knock a god unconscious,” I muttered. “Why though?”
Proserpina looked around for a minute, before suddenly looking confused. “The Helm of Darkness is gone.”
“Why the Helm of Darkness?” Kae asked.
I thought for a second before realising why, but it didn’t matter. I couldn’t tell.
“Are you okay, Pros? So you need anything?”
She shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Okay. I’ll assign extra guards to the palace for the next few days, and you call me if you need anything.”
She nodded, and I turned to Kae. “Where’re we going next?” He asked.
“A hotel. We slept outside last night, so I’m keeping my end of the real/not real deal, and giving you a bed tonight.”
“I think,” Proserpina mumbled. “You should sleep here tonight. If you have nothing else to do. It’s free, you can keep an eye on the castle, and you already have your own suite, so it would work.”
I looked at her. “Fuck yes!” I hadn’t slept in my bed in sooooooo long, and I missed it. And my hot tub, and hearing the cries of the souls at night, while smelling the faint smell of Proserpina’s flowers that were planted right outside my window, even though they were ten floors down. “I’ll show Kalabhiti to a room.”
Kae glared at me. “She already knows. What does it matter?”
He gave me a ‘eh, guess you’re not wrong’ single eyebrow lift look, and I started walking. After a while, he stopped me. “Where are you taking me?” He asked, playfully.
“To the minor suite.”
“What’s a minor suite?”
“There are two main suites in the two towers. I have the West one, and dad and Proserpina have the East one. There are like ten minor suites around the castle for guests. I gave one to Lara when she first got here, and I’m giving one to you.”
When we got to the last room in the hall, I sent him in. “I’ll be at the top of the stairs right outside your room. If you need anything, text me, cause I’m not fucking dealing with stupid shit in my house.”
“Fuck. Mood swings, much. Goodnight.”
I turned and walked off. What the fuck was that?
I… don’t know. Probably you!
The voice in my head laughed. Yeah, you’re right.
I went to my bedroom. After a long, relaxing shower, I plopped down in my king plus sized bed and turned on some of my music that helps me calm down. Fall Out Boys, All Time Low, One Direction, Three Days Grace, The Killer, Paradise Fears, Panic! At the Disco, Why Don’t We, The Cab, and Troye Sivan, mainly.
I laid there reading and jamming out most of the night, recharging, until I felt someone staring at me. Thinking it was blob man, I jumped up, but even though I strongly felt like I was being watched, I couldn’t see anyone anywhere. I sat back down and ignored it for a while, until it went away.
It didn’t stay away, though. About five minutes after it went away, it came back, but in a different sense. Last time felt like I was just being watched, but this time it felt threatening. Just as I strayed to get up to go get a glass of water, I felt a stab about two inches above my hips on the left side, and then it felt like I was being ripped apart from there. Looking down, my clothes were soaked in blood, so I knew I wasn’t imagining it.
By this point, the wound had ripped across the entire front of my abdomen, and now it was starting to get deeper, cutting me in half. As much as I don’t show pain, it was just too much, and I started screaming.
I screamed and cried for a good five minutes as the wound got deeper and deeper, almost half way through me, before two people appeared above me. I couldn’t tell who they were through the blur of my eyes, but they looked frantic.
I tried and tried and tried to get to the nectar in my bag, but every time I moved, I felt weaker and weaker, losing a lot more blood. Eventually I gave up and tried, but failed, to watch the two figures hovering around me. Eventually, I heard something.
“Why’s he doing this to her?”
“He’s not. His mother is doing it through him, and you know that.”
“But how can we help her?”
I heard a fearful sigh from the second figure. “You need to wake him up. You need to rid her from him. If you don’t, she’ll die.”
“Ok. Watch her while I go.” The first voice said, and I suddenly realised who it was.
“Mom,” I groaned, using a lot of my strength.
“Shhh. Save your energy, baby. I’ll help you.”
She left, and I was left with the second figure. I felt that I knew him, but I couldn’t place his voice, and I still couldn’t see anything but blurs. He sat and talked to me about anything and everything, but after a few minutes I stopped being able to hear, my ears ringing like crazy. I could feel that I was on the brink of death, and sighed, accepting the pain. I knew I’d be right back here, even if it wasn’t as a living being.
Just as I felt that I was going to die, the ringing stopped, and my vision started to clear. I looked up to see now five figures, three of whom were surrounding me. My mom, who was smiling, though still looked anxious. Proserpina, who looked confused and relieved at the same time. Kalabhiti, who was sitting in the corner crying his eyes out. My dad, who looked full of guilt, but also relief. And, to my most shock, hiding in the corner, looking pissed and annoyed, but also, to my almost disbelief, slightly relieved, was blob man.
I looked down at my blood soaked and blood stained clothes, and my abdomen. There was a three inch wide white scar running from where my back and side meet on my left side, to the same spot on the right. Exactly where I had been being ripped in half. And I thought Salem’s scar was bad.
Standing up, I nearly fell back down, but my dad caught me and laid me on my bed. “You need to sleep.”
“No. You--”
My mom stopped me. “Sleep.”
“No!” I horsley screamed. “I need answers, first. If I don’t get them now, dad will be gone when I wake up.”
“Not wrong,” Blob man mumbled.
“Shut up, Benjamin.”
He whipped his head to me, shocked. “You--”
“Yes, I know. Benjamin Zeal, last of the Soulless Shadow Reapers. Who the fuck names a species that?”
“You know that if he heard you,” Blob man said, pointing at a still crying Kae, who was tuning everyone out. “He could’ve just died, since he doesn’t know?”
“Yeah, that’s why we’re dropping it now. Now, I understand why proserpina is here, and my mom makes sense, but I have three questions. First of all, why the fuck are dad and blob man here?”
Shockingly, Benjamin stepped forward. “I need you alive, and you know that. I have a daughter myself, though she ended up completely mortal, but I know he’d want to be here if you died.”
Definitely not the answer I expected, but I nodded. “Next, what the fuck just happened?”
My mom answered this one. “You pissed off Morta when you took Kalabhiti with you, and she just tried to kill you. But she wanted to torture you instead of just snipping the string, so she made a small cut and started ripping it.”
Well that’s why I felt like I was being ripped in half. I was. I thought to myself. “Okay. And last question. Why in the gods' names is Kalabhiti over there balling his fucking eyes out?”
He wiped his face and took a deep breath, apparently hearing the last question. “Because I almost killed you.”
“It’s not your fault your mo--“
“No,” he stopped me. “I almost fucking killed you. I let her take over my fucking body, as she used to do a lot when I was younger. I let her, and it almost fucking killed you.”
I looked at Proserpina. “Oleander.”
Her and my dad knew what I meant as she bloomed the deadly Nerium Oleander in her hands, wafting the scent towards Kalabhiti. As soon as he smelt it, he passed out, and she killed the plant. My mom shadowed him to his room as Pros said, “He’ll wake up in the morning thinking this was all a dream, if he even remembers it at all.”
I gave my dad a hug. “This is the last time he’s gonna let me visit you or Lara. Find me, please.” With that, Benjamin shadowed them away. Pros went back to her room, and after helping me gain a quick burst of energy, my mom sat down on my bed as I used my powers to clean up and change my clothes. I didn’t have enough physical energy to do it.
I definitely wasn’t sleeping after what had just happened, so, turning my music back on, I leaned against my mom in bed, writing one of my stories, and listening to her talk about random, nostalgic things from my past.
