After Lara and Salem left, I turned to Kae. “Why Kae? I like Kalabhiti better.”
“Because too many people instantly associate Kalabhiti with fucking calamity. It’s really fucking annoying. K is the first letter of my first name, and K.A.E. stands for my initials, Kalabhiti Ambrose Erick.”
“That’s their fault,” I said with a shrug. “What should we do no—” I stuck my hands into my pocket to grab my phone, but I instantly noticed two things. One, the die was gone. Two, there was a piece of paper in its place.
Pulling out the crumpled piece of paper, I saw the familiar handwriting.Dear Melaena,
Congratulations on finding your last quest member! I pulled a little plot twist and decided to send away everyone, as you probably noticed. You will have to travel around the entire world to find them all… if you decide to even save them. Just remember, trust yourself. That includes Daeva. You and her will tell you who you can truly trust.
P.S. Don’t tell anyone outside of the room about this note.
-The Game Master
I looked up at Kae, sighing. “Fuck… This is so fucking stupid.”
“What is?”
I quickly gave him the knowledge of what he needed to know, seeing as he already knew I was a goddess. Afterwards, he looked at me. “What the fuck? Damn. That’s… shit. That’s fucking intense. I guess we should try and find some of those assholes, since you need them to find Pluto.”
I looked at him skeptically. I still didn’t trust him. Really, the only person I trust at this point is Salem. I care for Lara, Nico, and Hazel, but I don’t really trust them all that much. I’m very hesitant.
I trust him completely, unlike Salem.
Really?
Yes. I trust him, so you need to.
You don’t trust Salem yet, so I don’t trust Kae yet. You work with me, and I’ll work with you.
Fine.
“Okay. Where do you suggest we look, first?” I asked, annoyed.
“Well, Jason is a son of the sky, and he was near the water, so he’s probably doing opposites. Whoever you wanna find first, let’s look for the opposite of the powers.”
I thought about it for a second. Hazel. Underground and darkness, so bright sky. But where would that be?
Aeolus’ Floating Palace.
I thought about it for a second. Makes sense. I looked up at Kae. “Colorado, here we come.”———————————————————————————————————————————————
Packing up my bag, I sat down at the table and ripped a piece of paper out of my notebook. “Dear Laraline,” I mumbled as I wrote. “We didn’t disappear. We’ll be back, eventually. Don’t try to find us, you won’t be able to. Say it already! Larlem for life! Keep Sale safe for me. Signed, Melaena.”
Covering Kae and I in even untraceable for gods shadows, I teleported us to Colorado. After taking a quick shopping trip to get supplies for Kae, we went down to the Big Horn Reservoir.
“So where is this “Floating Palace?” Kae asked skeptically. I stayed silent for a second until I teleported us to an ice/cloud bridge. Kae looked up at the giant cloud palace and just stared. “Oh, there it is.”
I’d been here a few times before, so there was nothing particularly interesting to me, but Kae seemed awe-struck by everything he saw. I guess seeing the world through a pot isn’t the same as seeing it in real life.
Everything was going fine until we were talking to Aeolus. Kae had been talking to all the spirits, socialising with actual beings, when apparently he rubbed one of them the wrong way. One second, he’s surrounded by like fifty crazy, ushy-gushy spirits, like any popular high school boy, and the next second, he’s surrounded by like fifty screaming, pissed off spirits.
This caused just about every spirit around, including Aeolus and his crew, to start dragging him to the air pipes. I couldn’t do anything. Most gods feared me, and since Aeolus was one of the few that didn’t, I didn’t want to piss him off. He walked back over to me after Kae had been sucked up. “I’m sorry for all of the commotion.”
“It’s fine. How can I help you, Ms. Adair?”
“You know you can call me Mel. But I was wondering if you’ve seen my sister Hazel around here recently? Gold eyes, wavy brown hair. Probably not the most comfortable in the air.”
“Oh, you mean the girl swirling around in the cross vents? She’s been stuck in the middle for a while now, but we figured she'd catch a current and get sucked out eventually. You can go retrieve her, if you’d like.”
“Thanks.” With that, I shadowed to the cross vents, using the shadows as a shield from the wind. Looking down, I saw not just Hazel swirling around frantically, but Kae, too.
“Shit!” I yelled to myself over the roaring winds. “I don’t know if this is good or bad…”
Diving down. I managed to grab up Kae right away, but obviously Hazel was much more difficult. Every time I tried to grab her, she whirled away. Suddenly, Kae grabbed me. “She's about to die!”
“How do you know that?”
“Son of the Parcae of death, here. I can sense death, among many other things. Now, she’s about to die from whirling around here for days, so you might wanna save her!”
Now in a state of slight panic, I started thinking of what I could do. Looking at Kae, I got an idea. “Kalabhiti, I need you to make another calamity.”
He glared at me, but nodded. He shadowed himself (another power of his) back into the building, and within seconds, a group of spirits were chasing him through the air.
After nearly getting hit by like thirty spirits, they finally herded Hazel near my, and I was able to grab her. Nodding at Kae, we shadowed back to the first town in Colorado that came to my mind, Colorado Springs.
Helping a weak Hazel sit up, I gave her some nectar. A minute later, she seemed much better. “How are you feeling, Goldy?”
“Much better, now. Could we, maybe, please get something to eat?”
I nodded. “Yeah.”
She smirked. “And can you please introduce me to your friend?”
“Oh. This is Kit-Kat.”
Hazel smiled, and Kae gawked. “Really?” She asked.
“Yeah, but no. This is Kae, son of Morta.”
She stared at me in disbelief. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he said. “Now let’s go get you some food.”———————————————————————————————————————————————
We went to the Mountain Shadows Restaurant, and after the world's most delicious giant cinnamon roll, Hazel pulled me to the bathroom. “What’s wrong?”
I gave her a questioning look. “What’re you talking about?”
“You haven’t smiled once since you saved me, and you always smile when you call me Goldy.”
“Huh. Haven’t noticed. Guess I just didn’t think about it… Goldy.” I smiled, reassuring her that I was fine, which I was.
After we ate, I gave Hazel a long hug. “I don’t give a fuck if you tell Lara where we are or not, cause by time she shadows here, we’ll be gone already. We’ve already discussed where we’re going next. Just dont let anyone fucking touch Salem, and make sure Lara and Salem keep up their progress. Larlem for life.”
She grinned and nodded. “Thanks, and I will.”
With that, I shadowed her back to Lara and Salem, and I turned to Kae. “To California we go.” Then, I shadowed us away.
