How do you think dinner will go?" I said as I peeled sweet potatoes while peeking into the living room. Jesse was standing next to me cutting up onions, I watched him try and blink away the tears as he cut. The kitchen was getting hot from all of the pots on the stove and macaroni and cheese in the oven. We still had a lot to cook even though we decided to start cooking yesterday.

The amount of noise that too many people in a too small house and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade could make was astounding.

Luckily everything sounded like everyone was getting along, because our families for the most part, got along well but there were two people who could tear that all apart. Jesse's mom and aunt. As long as they stayed away from my side of the family, everything should go fine.

It had been a very crowded couple of days, with my family staying with us and Jesse's family staying with his mom. Our house was packed, the living room housing the adults and the basement became the kids area. I had to admit though, it was so great seeing everyone, my sisters, mom and dad, it was so nice to be surrounded by family.

"My mom is in a good mood, should be fine." He said.

"You feeling okay Jess? You're kinda quiet." I said. We had spent most of the morning together, just cooking and talking to each other. He was suddenly quiet Which to be honest was working out surprisingly well because usually when Jesse and I cook together we end up distracting each other and I end up burning something.

"I'm fine."

"Have you talked to your sister?"

"Diana's fine."

"Negro, you know what sister I meant." Jesse and Ciara hadn't exactly been on speaking terms ever since Shaun's "intervention". He was pissed that Ciara, of all people, didn't tell him the truth about Shaun.

"I don't have anything to say to her." He said.

"Your mom kept information from you and you still speak to her." He rolled his eyes and said,

"Ciara's not my mom. She should've told me but she didn't. I have nothing to say to her."

"She never meant you any harm, and I'm sure she didn't know what to do at the time. You're cutting too fast." He was trying to quickly cut the onions but for each section he was getting dangerously closer and closer to his own fingers.

"She lied to me. I never would've let Shaun stay with me if I had known. What if he hadn't freaked out on me, what if it had been you or Diana?"

"I get what you mean but you don't want to spend the holidays on bad terms, it's going to be hard enough without your dad here, don't shut her out."

"FUCK!"

I stopped peeling potatoes as Jesse put his thumb in his mouth.

"Did you just cut yourself? Let me see." I said, reaching out for him. He pulled back from me.

"It's fine." He said and walked over to the sink.

"At least let me see." I walked over to the sink as he washed and dried it off. It didn't look so bad, I grabbed a band-aid and Jesse's now dry hand.

"Does it hurt?" I asked.

"Not really." He said. I kissed his hand before putting on the band aid.

"Are you okay, like really?"

"I'm fine, stop worrying about me. Thanks Doctor." He said, kissing my forehead lightly.

"I'm going to check on everyone. Try to keep all your fingers."
