Chapter 17: Sober

I didn't say anything for a moment. I tried to wrap my head around how stupid this all sounded. I took a step back and looked at Jesse.

"And there's no other way for you to get this deal?" I said.

"Not really."

"The same skank who tried to get you to sleep with her the last time you worked together and you think that this is a good idea?"

"I don't want to work with her, even if what happened hadn't happened, I still don't want to work with her. But it's not really my choice."

"I get it but, I don't think this is a good idea. However, I did tell you that I would support you and trust you. So that's what I'm going to do. Don't let me down."

"I won't, you know you ain't gotta worry about me. And when it comes time to tour, I don't have to travel with her, I only do the three dates in L.A, Atlanta, and of course NYC. So I'll only be there for the show, that's it, no tour bus, no traveling with her that's it." He said, putting his arms around me again.

"Make sure that she knows that you got a wife who will whoop somebody's ass. That I will fuck shit up if need be. What song are y'all even doing?"

"Chill, no ass beatings will be necessary, believe me. I don't know I'll find out when I go to LA next month to record it."

"How long are you going to be there?"

"Just a week, enough time to record the song and shoot the video, that's all."

"Why do you even have to?"

"Because she's making the studio a lot of money right now so, especially after her Meg thee Stallion remix went to number one. Whatever she wants she's probably going to get."

"Meg's verse is the best part of that song! I guess you should take advantage of the opportunity and get something out of it."

"I get it but nothing is going to happen."

"Aright. Whatever you say."

"How about you tell me more about this doctor's appointment this week, how bout that?" he said as I turned around to finish cooking the food.

“I will, we’re going to hear our baby’s heartbeat this week, Are you excited?”

“Hell yeah, love. It’s. Going. To. Be. So. Amazing.” He said, punctuating each word with a kiss on my neck.

“Ooh, if you’re not careful, we gon have to finish what you’re starting, and I’m going to burn dinner.”

“Burn it, I’d rather have you instead.” he said, sucking on my neck, as a giggle escaped me.

I was trying to stay focused on dinner while Jesse continued his assault, when we heard the doorbell ring.

Jesse moved to answer the door. I grabbed his arm and said, "Honey,  if we don't respond they'll go away."

"Baby you know it doesn't work like that, they'll just-" The doorbell rang like five more times. "Keep ringing the doorbell." he said.

"Jess, it's like nine at night who the hell would be visiting us unannounced at this time? It's just some bullshit."

"Let me just see, I'll be back before you know it I promise." He said. I rolled my eyes and pouted. While Jesse walked to the door it rings like seven more times. Who the hell could be so aggressive and inconsiderate? Well besides his mother, who I really sincerely hoped it wasn't. It was quiet for a minute and then all of a sudden a loud booming voice rang out from the door.
