Prologue

"Jaleia?" I turned around towards a familiar voice.

"Jesse? What???" I reached out to give him a hug. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

"How have you been Jay? I haven't seen you in forever."

"I'm doing good Jess, what about you?!!!"

"I'm good. "

"You look good! How's Diana and your sister and brother and your mom and dad."

"Thanks, everyone's good, Ciara's going to get married. Shaun's still an ass, but that's a long story, and Di, she's amazing. She's going to be starting middle school soon. My mom and dad are good. How's your sisters and fam?"

"Everyone's good, really good, grad school and all and I'm trying to get into med school."

"Congratulations in advance, I always knew you were way smarter than me. By the way you look amazing, Dr."

"Shut up!" I said as we laughed. Jesse's phone rang and he answered it. While he talked I really looked him over. He didn't look too different but he added some muscle to his physique. And the facial hair was definitely working for him.

"Alright I'm on my way back bye!" He hung up the phone and said, "So sorry for that, I've been in the studio all day trying to write and I took a break to get some coffee. Let me give you my number, if you don't mind? We should catch up sometime."

"Sure, but studio?"

"Yeah I write songs for different artists. Here put your number in." He handed me his phone.

"Eww, an iPhone." I said as I put my number in.

"I have an iPhone due to "security" reasons. I don't know, that's what they tell me. But I'll see you around Jay. I'll text you!" He gave me a hug.

"I'll see you around Jess." He grabbed his coffee and walked out the door.

"So what have you been up to?"

"Um, I've turned songwriting into a career. After that internship I learned my way around the studio, kept my contacts, and before I graduated NYU I started writing and selling songs to different labels, now I have permanent jobs with them writing. I got engaged- "

"Oh, congrats!"

"Not exactly, a few weeks ago I found my fiance with another guy. And the crazy thing is I would've forgiven her but SHE broke up with me. Made some great songs from that though. What about you?"

"I'm so sorry. You deserve so much better. I've had my head in books for the past like 7 years. Not much has really changed with me. My sisters both got married. I've had no time for a life."

"You're going to have to make time for you new best friend."

"You're not new, we've been reunited. And by the way Kiara is my best friend. You know Kiara is engaged, right? And you'll never guess who I'm actually very close friends with!"

"Cool, who?"

"Mariah."

"What? You're kidding! No way, you hated her!"

"After she had her baby she really chilled out, she's a completely different person. I love her and her son Eli now. We ran into each other and just vibed. I text her like every day."

"I don't believe you- no way! Does that mean you still talk to Tyler?"

"I could show you the messages! Yeah I can only take Tyler in small doses. We talk but it ain't nothing like it used to be. He's got 3 kids! All different baby mommas. I guess that means you don't keep up with him."
