January

She pulls my shirt off, our lips reconnecting seconds later. I brace my elbows on either side of her, my fingers tangled in her thick hair. I rub against her, a moan leaving her soft lips at the touch.
Suddenly I hear my door being thrown open and Ethan's excited voice fills the space behind me. "Bro guess what-." He stops in the middle of the sentence and starts screams at what he sees.
I quickly cover Natalie, who's topless, cover my boner, and sit up, fixing my hair.
Ethan continues screaming, his hands over his eyes.
"What Ethan!" I yell, frustrated at my cock-block of a brother.
He stops screaming but leaves his hands covering his eyes as he walks backward out of my room. "It's nothing, I'll tell you later-."
"Come on E, just tell us since you seemed so excited," Natalie adds.
He freezes at her voice. "No, it's fine."
"Ethan." I roll my eyes.
"I got the lead role in the musical, happy?" He quickly turns and runs out of my room, slamming the door after him.
Natalie and I sit in shock. Eventually, she speaks up. "I was not expecting that."
I turn toward her. "Yeah, I'm sorry I thought I locked the door."
She laughs. "No, I don't care about him walking in on us. It was bound to happen sooner or later."
"Oh, okay?"
She stands, looking for her shirt. "I mean, Ethan the lead in the musical? The play was one thing, but the musical-." She shakes her head. "It's a stretch. Can he sing?" She doesn't wait for me to answer. "There must have not been anyone else to do it." She pulls her shirt over her head and walks over to my mirror to fix her hair and smudged makeup.
I lean back in my bed, watching her. "Well, he actually is a good singer, since we were little. And he's an even better actor so-."
She snorts, turning back to me. "Babe, I know he's your twin and you have that weird bond with him, but you can be honest with me."
I sit up, feeling defensive. "I am being honest."
She shakes her head, turning back to the mirror. "Okay." She changes the subject. "I wish I could stay but I told my mother I would be home for dinner."
"It's fine."
She turns, strolling over to the bed and crawling over the sheets to me. I lean forward to meet her lips. She bites my bottom lip as she pulls away, our eyes meeting and a promise is shared between us.
She gets off the bed and puts her shoes on. "See you, tomorrow baby." She blows a kiss.
I wave half-heartedly. "Bye babe."
She stalks out the door, and I hear her car leave, seconds later Ethan enters my room, a glare on his face.
"What?" I yawn.
He crosses his eyes. "Seriously, you couldn't have saved it for another time."
"At least I'm not fucking my girlfriend in a janitor's closet."
Shock ripples across his face but he quickly clears it. "I don't know what you're talking about."
I chuckle. "Sure, then who are those rumors about."
He rolls his eyes. "We never fucked in the janitor's closet, we were talking and someone overheard us and clearly twisted what actually happened."
I raise my eyebrows. "Can I finally meet her then?"
He scowls. "No, not until you break up with Natalie."
"What's your problem with Natalie."
"She's rude, and I rather not have my girlfriend's confidence torn to shreds."
"Natalie is not rude."
Ethan chuckles. "Keep telling yourself that." He swiftly left the room, whistling some song.
"She's not rude..." I mumble to myself.

"So are you guys official?"
Mae chokes on her rice. "What? No, of course not. We both don't want to be in a relationship."
"Oh."
She glares at me. "I know what you're thinking, and I promise, this time won't be like last time."
"But last time you did the same thing and you got feelings."
She avoids my gaze. "That won't happen this time."
I feel like shaking some sense into her but I smile instead. "Okay, as long as you're happy I'm happy. And Mark's a great guy."
Mae smiles. "He is..."
I take a bite of my food just as she starts coughing, covering her mouth with her elbow. I frown as she keeps coughing and coughing, it getting worse. I lay my hand on her back. "Where's your inhaler."
"I don't need it." She rasps into between coughs.
"Mae..."
She coughs one more time before swallowing. "See? I'm fine."
She goes back to eating, avoiding my gaze once more. I don't say anything as I notice her breathing becoming deeper and raspier. Eventually, she stands, picking up her purse and announcing that she's going to the bathroom.
I watch her practically run to the bathroom, leaving me in the mall food court. I sigh, why are there suddenly so many unsaid words between us?
