(a/n TW: mentions of suicide–but it's only bc they are preforming Romeo and Juliet)

"So I heard you and Natalie are dating now.."
Grayson nods. "Yeah, I asked her out this past weekend."
"Are you happy?"
He smiles. "Yes."
"Good, then I'm happy for you."
His smile fades slightly but he brings it back up as he changes the subject. "I'm excited about the play Friday night."
"You're coming?"
"Of course, I've never missed one of your plays! And I don't plan to start anytime soon."
I laugh. "Oh, I thought you were coming for Ethan-."
"Oh!" He smacks his head. "I forgot E was in it.."
"Yup, he's Romeo and I'm Juliet."
"So you both confess your undying love for each other then dramatically die?"
"Pretty much."
He chuckles. "I'm not going to pretend like it's not going to be awkward for me to watch that."
"It's not that bad."
His eyes widen. "Wait, do you kiss?!"
I blush. "Yes."
He buries his head in his hands. "Oh nooo."
Before I can respond the teacher comes in, starting our lesson for the day. But I can't help but smile at the fact that Grayson's coming to see me at the play, not Ethan.
-Grayson pov-
Cameron and I take our seats in the middle of the auditorium.
She shakes her head. "I still can't believe Ethan is in a play...Ethan."
I chuckle. "Me too, I'm slightly worried he's going to make a fool of himself."
She swats my arm. "Oh don't say that, he'll do great...I think."
I roll my eyes, laughing along with her.
"So..." Cam pops a piece of gum into her mouth. "So, where's your girlfriend? Natalie?"
"She's doesn't like plays."
Cameron scowls. "Of course she doesn't."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
But Cam just shushes me as the lights dim and the curtains open.
I half expected Ethan to come out on stage as a bush, meaning he and Anna tricked us into thinking he was the lead role. But he didn't come out dressed as a bush or a townsperson. He came out as Romeo Montague. And he was magnificent.
Ethan acted with such emotion that he drew me instantly into the play. I sat on the edge of my seat, captivated by the scene in front of me.
And as one of the characters drawled on about some fairy queen I whisper to myself. "He's good, he's actually good."
I watch as Juliet and Romeo meet for the first time, both staring into each other's eyes with longing and passion.
(a/n all of the lines will be from the translated modern version of Romeo and Juliet)
"Well then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do. Their prayer is 'grant a kiss, in case I lose my faith'." Romeo holds Juliet's hands in his.
"Saints grant prayers, but they don't move." She replies.
