He stopped his rental car in front of her cabin. Nervous and anxious about what was yet to come. As he got out of the car, he noticed the vibrant moonlight lighting the early morning sky. He hesitantly made his way down the sandy path leading to her cabin. Once he was at her doorstep, he glanced down at his wristwatch.

5:41 am...still too early to wake her up...

Still too early to bother her...

He should wait until at least 6:00 am to greet and confront her. She wasn't an early riser like him.

He retreated his step, taking a deep breath to ease his anxiety.

Taking a moment to gather his thoughts...

He was afraid of approaching her.

What if this was what she wanted?

What if she didn't see a future with them together?

What if this was where his love story ended?

He would have to at least try though... he will never know without trying.

He didn't want to live with the "what ifs"...

He diverted his attention from her front door to the serene ocean. The body of water always gave him comfort... always eased his pain... always calmed him down.

He walked across her wooden deck, further into the sand so as to get a stronger ocean breeze and a more clearer view.

He squinted his eyes, finding a small dark figure... standing knee deep in the water.

Strange... he thought.

Why would anyone be in the water at this ungodly time of the early morning hours... especially in the freezing ice-cold water?

He walked a little closer to get a better look... as if a sudden force pulling him towards this mysterious figure.

It was a woman, he noticed... petite in size... dressed in a black dress... her dark hair open and flowing freely down her back...

He wondered what was going on... who was this?

The figure seemed familiar... she almost reminded him of-

His pulse beat up... as cold realization set in... his eyes recognizing  the back of his wife in the near distance...

Before he even had a moment to comprehend the situation, he saw the crashing waves pull her into the surge... the current dragging her underwater and completely out of his line of sight...

Panic surged through his blood as he automatically pulled of his shoes and ran towards the water... feeling as if a part of him was drowning...

He didn't think about anything... he didn't feel anything.

All he focused on was finding her... rescuing her alive... because if she died... he died...

The tense moments he spent diving and digging deep into the ocean searching for her were a blur. His razor-sharp focus was all that could save her now...
