She felt numb. Absorbing each new information as if a blow to her own body.

He had been in a horrific car accident... shot multiple times, 5 to be exact, through the windshield...by an unknown person. His car had toppled over twice and fallen into a ditch, breaking his ribs, nearly fracturing his skull, and knocking him out unconscious. His car had then been set on fire by someone, with him still inside.

Bleeding, bruised, and broken.

It was a miracle that he had survived the car explosion... as if a guardian angel had watched over him and pulled him out of the burning car... right in the nick of time. He hadn't been lucky enough to escape from severe burns and had lost a lot of blood.

Three bullets had punctured his lungs causing them to collapse. The other two had hit his shoulder, inches away from an artery. For 51 days, he had remained on the ventilator, in a coma... in the same hospital as her...fighting for his life.

And she hadn't known. Ice spread through her limbs and she could feel herself shaking, tears clogging her throat. It hurt to even hear about this.

God must have answered Fadik Ana's prayers because he eventually won the battle against death, regained consciousness, and healed. His further recovery had been in Adana, both physical and psychological, since Fadik Ana didn't want to risk his life from whoever it was that was trying to kill him in Istanbul.

His recovery had been excruciatingly long and painful. The aftermath of those injuries still affecting him to this day.

It had been obvious from his questions, upon coming out of coma, that he had suffered from a case of selective retrograde amnesia. He had forgotten the year he had spent in Istanbul. The year during which he had come to avenge her family. The year in which he had met her, fallen in love, and married her.

Those scars that he had on his face...were a result of the aftermath of that accident... forever engraved on his face. A daily reminder of the tragedies he had witnessed in this city. The tragedies he had faced...because of her.

She felt her body give up, a pain so great tearing through her. Dropping her head in Ana's lap, she wept for him. He hadn't willingly forgotten her. He had suffered through a traumatic family tragedy followed by an almost fatal car accident.

Someone had tried to take his life.

Fadik Ana caressed her hair as her tears soaked the blanket. She cried for the man she loved... felt the pain he must have gone through, the confusion he must have felt waking up in a different year, memories erased, and all his siblings gone. All possibly because of her... and her family.

Her eyes glanced over at the window again, where she had thought she had seen him earlier.

What now? She wondered. What was she going to do?

She felt so conflicted, as some of the missing pieces came together. Someone from her family had tried to kill him... she was sure of it. They had continued the war, pretending to accept their relationship, pretending to care about them, and then backstabbing them.

For so many years, she had wallowed over her own pain, her own loss because of him. Never considering his losses... because of her.

She squeezed her eyes shut, again at crossroads. She was the cause of his pain and he was the cause of hers.
