Chapter 30: Unstable Sanctuary

Drydra soared out of the area leaving the reaming Shifters behind.

"We should get to the Mages, where it's safe," Yara said, with a snake's body instead of legs. The others nodded and began their run out of the area, their various bodies scattering them. One of them picking up Elan's unconscious body with their long fingers.

"Anyone know what's happening," one with giant horns said.

"Not a clue, Derel," said another with tentacles on her back.

"Peter never said anything about eye-less Monsters that could hijack minds on the old world," Shall said.

"Who gives a **** about understanding them, just kill anything that attacks us," Colt said, as they were nearing the path.

"Stop! I sense something," Shall said, sniffing the air and surveying the land with multiple eyes.

"Smells of death," said one of little Human features. With that, the Shifter Cannibals leapt from the trees and crashed to the ground around them. As they rose and stretched their bodies and the tentacles on their backs serval reeled at the mere sight of them.

"The hell," another said as the army surrounded them.

"Where the **** you think you're going you little *****," one with large claws said, as the Shifters morphed their limbs and expanded their bodies into Dragon forms.

"Seriously Alphus, did you have to ******* say that."

"What! Come one, I had to, it's required for ambushes. Strikes fear in their hearts."

"Shut the hell up!" Colt screamed, charging the disapproving Cannibal, with plated arms.

"Wonderful," she said, arching her body down, her back bending to dodge the blow and then followed up by binding him in tentacles, which absorbed his body.

"This is where knowing your ******* enemy's powers help, but **** tons of thanks for being my demonstration.

"You killed him you Monster!" Shall screamed as he unloaded shots in her direction which were blocked by a Smasher's shield.

"How could you," another remarked with the swaying heads on her shoulders following up.

"We'll kill you for that," one of them said.

"No, I think we should run," the second said.

"Thank you Oron," she spoke again, "now as I was ******* saying before I was so rudely interrupted by that *******, we are not here to kill you. We are here to save you all from death and grant you power you can only dream of." Oron stepped to the side as a mass of pale flesh, bones and pale blood was pushed out of the female Cannibal's lower chest area. The mass shifted and rearranged itself with the Shifters looking on in disgust and terror. The pile rose until two legs, arms and a body formed with the skin tightened with wounds forming until finally, the face formed; the only recognisable thing on his now mangled body. The Cannibal hit the ground on all fours with a mass a large mass of moving organs falling from his chest, it breathed heavily as if gasping for breath.

"How the **** do you feel?" She asked.

"Everything hurts so ******* much, but I feel so ******* strong" he replied.

"And what the **** do you want to do now?"

"Get some ******* biomass for the boss," he said as he leapt at the Shifters. As the new Cannibal stood, they got over their disgust and readied themselves.

Though little could prepare them. A Slasher swung his claws at a Cannibal the blades jammed into its chest with the amorphous flesh sealing behind them. The Shifter pulled to no effect, he charged them with sever energy, but the pale had crept up is arm pulling the skin and muscles apart as it did so. He screamed his eyes turning crazed, as the Monster smiling back with jagged teeth. Without thought, he pressed his palm against its chest, and it to stuck and was enveloped soon after, he knelt down in agony, and his skull was crushed between its fingers. His body was lifted into the gaping maw of the Cannibal seconds later he reemerged as one himself and turned on his friends under his master's orders.
