The Devourer unleashed a roar of Human screams and bounded back on its arms. The Monster's body mutated, its skin breaking apart with mass filling in the cracks until it was far larger than I. In its empowered form, it roared and leapt to the upper canopy.
"You think size will save you; you have just even me a bigger target to hit." By Ominomgon, how powerful were the Shifters? From its mouth, something shot out for only a moment and narrowly missed me.
I looked at its mouth, open and with a barrel out. I also saw that orange spikes covered its tail. The needle behind me exploded, sending shrapnel tearing into my body. If one hit me, I would suffer significant damage; it would strike my core directly.
I took flight, another shot sped past me and exploded into a tree; now I could attack, I unleashed solar bolts. Though many were cut apart by blades, some got through and evaporated what they stuck, leaving craters in its immense frame.
I pulled at the bark the Devourer clung to, but it was too high, so my vines would take too long to reach it. When I pulled the branches from beneath its claws, it staggered just slightly, but enough to let me get a hit in. It roared in anger.
When the branches were within reach, I drove my claws into them, and injected solar energy, then not stopping their momentum, I spun them back. The branches tore through the air faster than before, and upon skewered its stolen flesh, they exploded.
It roared again and lashed two of its limbs at me one after the other, lashing attacks were deadly, but they would only strike one specific point. I may not have been able to sense them, but I had learned where they would travel after fighting it for so long.
Flying up, I dodged the first and to the side the second; then they came again. Unlike the Core-torn, I could not cover my body with eyes, but I could still move their positions on my head. I kept flying from one air-space to another, making sure to keep my movements chaotic while also making sure I was not in the path of an attack.
I felt my core staining with my speed, but I could not stop to replenish my supply. The Monster grabbed hold of another part of the circle and spun around, changing position and swinging its tentacles at me. I still had elemental energy, so before it re-perched, I drew the bark towards me, the shards slammed into it, and with enough force, the Monster was ripped out of the air and came crashing down to earth.
Its tentacles reached up to get back up, but it was near the roots, so I raised them to cage its body, but not its tentacles, them pushing against the ground and pulling on the trees to free themselves. I grinned, rising more thick, tough roots to curl around its body.
I opened the points they pressed against, and they dove themselves into the holes, which I promptly sealed shut. Those who pulled on the trees I leeched of their strength to topple them and further trap the Devourer. I was sure to fly out of their path.
With the Monster rooted to the ground, I restored my energy along with generating more, then gathered vast amounts of solar energy in my mouth for a laser that would destroy it entirely.I saw the buried tentacles break free, their blades cutting through the earth. They then joined the others in lifting the tree from the mouth. I sucked the energy back into myself and tried to push against their efforts; one tentacle formed a barrel and began firing spikes at me.
