Emma's POV

I sit there watching their expressions as they comprehend the information I just dumped on them. Teigan is the first to speak, I was always closest to him.

"Mom, did you know?" he asks, she nods. Of course, she did. It's not every day that your sister flies to the UK, comes back with a kid, and never had a baby bump unless the obvious happened.

"That's not what matters right now. What matters is my goddaughter was neglected by my sister, sent to the hospital, flatlined, has a new guardian and last name, and is moving away when she graduates. I'm supposed to take you in as your godmother and no one contacted me? No one contacted me when you were in the hospital, no one contacted me when we almost lost you, no one contacted me when the decision was made," she tangents. I swallow hard and look at the floor.

"I know. I know it's crazy and you feel left out. I know you were supposed to be there, I know what was supposed to happen. I told the doctors that if social services thought the Greys were incapable of raising me alone, then you were too. You are in the same dilemma as them, you have three kids and you're living comfortably, add one more and it all goes crashing down. I would never put that upon anyone, especially you. I don't know if you weren't contacted, that's on the hospital. You are the first godparent listed in my records, they should've called you on their own. When you didn't show up I just figured you had better things to do. The Greys were my choice since no one from my family was in that room," I explain. They look at me dumbfounded.

"What, you think I don't know these things? I am in a medical class, I know what hospitals are supposed to do. Have you checked your voice mails or anything of that nature?" I ask. Lydia gets up and fetches the house phone and her phone. She goes through her personal voice mails and she stumbles on the one she's looking for. 'Good afternoon, this is the Greenville Regional Medical Center looking for Lydia Kallon. Your goddaughter has been admitted into the emergency room and was given a temporary room. If you don't get back to us within an hour, she'll be transferred to a different room and she'll stay until we find out where she goes. Her mother neglected her, please contact us as soon as possible at this number.'

The room is silent. They did call, she just didn't answer. She goes through the house phone's voice mails and finds the same message. She drops the phone on the floor and stares at the wall in front of her. It's like she's blaming herself, and I can't have that. I walk over to her and hug her in her lap.

"I'm so sorry Em, I should've answered. You could be here right now and nothing would be complicated. You wouldn't have been as alone as you were. I can't take it back now, but I'm always here, please don't forget about us," I squeeze her tighter, this is the only thing I hate about this situation. The tears from the people I've grown up knowing as my family. The moment is broken by Marlo.

"So, you're not technically my cousin. Aunt Kameron adopted cause she couldn't have kids? She should've waited, she would've eventually had a kid, hence Regan. That's not what God wants, he wants us to have our own kids. And isn't that Harry guy gay? Cause if he is then-" I cut her off before I feel the need to slap her. I walk over to her and put her in her place.

"So what she couldn't have a child at first, that's not on her. She had the heart to adopt a child to give them a life, whether it was good or bad was a different question. Stop inserting your stupid religious views into everything that happens around you. This has nothing to do with God and I'm sure he'd be happier she gave someone a life than left them to sit in an orphanage. She adopted me at first, this means she wanted to give a kid a good life from the beginning of it. Don't even go anywhere near what you were about to say about his sexuality because frankly, that's none of your business. If you have such a problem with it because of your religion, then read about mistranslations in the bible, because nowhere in there did it originally say it's against his laws. I hope you know that having a small-minded, homophobic cousin, isn't the best thing to have then you're proudly bisexual and adopted," I seethe. Never in my life have I seen someone so shocked. She got up and walked to her room.
