"Please, just think about it-
"No," my mum says in a hushed voice, "You know how I feel about this-"
"It's her family," dad says cutting her off, "and my family too."
I was sitting on the top step of the stairs listening to my parents argue down in the kitchen. In a few days dad and I were leaving to visit Uncle Harry and my dad wants mum to go. I warned him she wouldn't but he insisted on asking her.
"When you first told me about them you didn't consider them family so what's changed?"My mum asks, demandingly.
"You know exactly what's changed," my dad argues.
"Right, Lannah becomes a witch and suddenly you're best friends with your deranged cousin, is that right?" She says the word 'witch' with such disgust it makes me wince.
"Do not say that- Lannah might hear you," dad shoots back.
"I don't care-"
"Well you should! Alannah is a witch and damn good one at that. If I can accept it maybe you can too."
Mum remains quiet for a few moments.
"Do you even care that you barely have a relationship with your daughter anymore?" My dad asks.
I go back to my room before I can hear her answer.

A few days later me and dad say goodbye to mum, she didn't wish us a good trip. I try not to care about her approval anymore. It makes me upset, but I just need to accept that she will never see me how she used to.
Thankfully, once we got to the Potters' I didn't even think about her. I was just happy to be at my second home. If I could sum up me and dad's stay with the Potters, it would all come down to one word: hectic.
Me and dad had arrived at the Potters in the afternoon, only to find out we would be visiting the Burrow for a family dinner. I internally laughed knowing dad had no idea what this meant. As far as he was concerned, dinner would be a quiet affair just with Harry's family. From experience, I knew a family dinner at the Burrow was not that at all.
The minute we arrived at the Burrow both me and dad were engulfed by hugs and welcomed by everyone. The house was bustling with excitement as usual. Mrs.Weasley, Hermione and Ginny were in the kitchen preparing dinner. I brought dad in to introduce him to Mrs.Weasley, but I think he was distracted by the flying vegetables chopping themselves and the napkins floating to the dinner table.
I then brought him around the house and attempted to introduce him to the rest of the family... but you can imagine how that went.
"Dad, you know Albus and Rose but this is Fred and Roxanne, George's kids. That's Angelina, George's wife. Hugo is Rose's brother, James and Lily are Albus' siblings. Molly and Lucy here are Percy's children. Victoire, Dominique and Louis are Bill and Fleur's children. Oh- and come say hi to Mr.Weasley!" I pulled dad over to Mr.Weasley who was sitting on the couch with Ron.
"Hello Lannah! Oh, this must be the famous Dudley!" He grabbed his cane and stood up to shake my dad's hand.
"Pleased to meet you sir," dad said, still with a lingering look of confusion after having so many names thrown at him.
"You're quite lucky," Mr.Weasley says, sitting back down. "Normally I'd have a million questions for a muggle such as yourself, but see now that I have a muggle-born daughter in law, I'm afraid I've burnt out my questions with her!"
"Yeah, I think Hermione would have loved a Muggle to help her with that four hour conversation," Ron says, rolling his eyes.
"I helped her with that conversation Ron, I think I deserve a little bit of credit."
