Today is the day of Ravenclaw tryouts. Saying I'm nervous would be an understatement.
I got barely any sleep last night, I stayed up reading Quidditch Through the Ages to calm me down. I know my worrying seems excessive but if I don't get on the team now, I doubt I ever will. Seeker is a popular spot on the team, and if they get someone good this year it probably won't open up again for a couple of years. And after telling everyone how much this means to me, I don't want to let them down. Even dad sent me a letter saying good luck... I just want to do something that will make him proud.
I was now heading to Potions with Scorpius and he was rambling on about everything I need to remember for tryouts.
"You'll be fine, I know it. But just- just remember not to go too steep when flying down, it's easy to get injuries like that-"
"Scorpius, thank you, really, but I need to get to class," I say as we arrive at Potions class.
"Okay, okay. I'll see you later." And with that, he walks down the hallway heading to his Transfiguration class.
I smile realizing how much he cares for me to get on the team, he knows how important it is to me. I guess he's also on my list of people I don't want to let down.
I walk into Potions and take my usual seat next to Cian in the front.
"Hey," I smile as I take out my textbook.
"Hi." He snakes his hand under the desk and grabs my hand.
I feel myself blush as he links his fingers around mine. Nothing else has happened since our kiss, probably because we haven't been alone since. I'm not sure what we are, we haven't talked about it yet. I think it's safe to say we're more than friends though.
"Do you want to come to the Gryffindor Common Room after class? One of the fourth years got sent a muggle game from his parents, it looks like loads of fun. We're having a big tournament and I know I'll win with you on my team," he says, winking at me.
"Oh, Cian, that sounds like fun but I can't tonight. I have my tryouts today," I tell him. "Remember?" I had told him at least five times. I haven't talked about much else lately. I try to hide my disappointment at the fact that he didn't remember.
"Right. I forgot." He removes his hand from mine and opens his textbook as Profesor Estelle walks in and begins the class.
She explains the potion we're brewing today and to pair up. Me and Cian walk over to a Cauldron together and I begin setting out the ingredients.
"I don't see why you're trying out," Cian says to me as he chops a beetle eye.
I look up at him in confusion. "What?"
"I mean- it's just such a dangerous sport. And it'll take up so much of your time."
I look away from him as I fumble with the ingredients. Did he really not want me to try out? Had I not told him how much this meant to me?
I get that he's worried about me, but this is something I've wanted to do since I found out what Quidditch was."I'll still have free time- and- and we don't even know if I'll make it," I say.
I begin stirring the potion as I add two drops of Horklump juice.Cian remains quiet for a moment as he throws in the beetle's eyes.
"As long as you still have time for the Hogsmeade trips," he says finally, offering me a weak smile.
Now that we're in third year, we're allowed to go to Hogsmeade, Cian is really excited about it.
"Of course!" I say excitedly, glad we changed the topic. "The first trip is tomorrow, right? I wouldn't miss it," I assure him.
