I was finally leaving dad's house, after an awkward week of Christmas break. I had spent most of it either in my room or on walks, avoiding conversation with him at all costs. We now drove in silence to the train station and I was anxious to get back to Hogwarts, away from all this family drama.
Dad pulls into the parking lot of the station and reaches to unlock his seatbelt.
"Don't worry," I say. He gives a confused look. "Stay here. I'll go on my own. See you in a few months." I don't wait for him to respond, and get out of the car and grab my things from the trunk before heading into the station.
Once I make it to Platform 9 ¾ I begin getting excited to tell my friends everything that happened. It had been so hard not having anyone to talk to. Writing letters isn't the same as talking in person. I make my way to our usual compartment on the train, but when I slide the door open I find Scorpius, Albus and another girl, who I vaguely recognize, sitting next to Scorpius.
"Oh, hi," I say, caught off guard by the presence of another girl.
"Hey, Alannah," Scorpius smiles as Albus waves to me.
"Lannah, you know Isla right?" Albus asks.
As I get a better look at her I remember her. She's a short girl with black hair and a nose piercing. I realize I've had classes with her before, she's in Slytherin. I just didn't realize she was friends with Scorpius and Albus.
"Right...hi Isla," I say, offering a smile.
She smiles back at me as I continue standing awkwardly in the doorway.
"The train is going to start moving soon, you should sit," Scorpius says.
"Where's Rose?" I ask Albus, ignoring Scorpius. If I sit there won't be room for Rose.
"She's sat with Sarah and her friends. Just sit down, we'll see her at school."
I nod and take a seat next to Albus, across from Isla. The boys and Isla go back into a conversation that had started before I walked in, and I sit there silently. I didn't really know Isla, and I certainly didn't know she was close with Albus and Scorpius. I have nothing against her, but at this moment I wish she wasn't here so I could tell my friends about what happened over my Christmas break.
About halfway through the train ride, Scorpius gets up to go get something from the trolley. "Alannah, come with me," he says.
I look up from the book I had been reading to keep myself occupied while the three of them conversed. I nod and set my book down on my seat and exit the compartment with Scorpius.
"Are you okay?" He asks me as we walk down the hallway.
"Yeah," I smile. "Fine."
"Isla is just a friend," he says slowly.
"What- I know. I never said anything," I say defensively.
He smirks at me.
"It's okay, you can admit it. You were jealous.""Was not," I say, crossing my arms.
Before I can realize what's happening, he pulls me into an empty compartment and slides the door shut. He wraps his arms against my waist and pushes me against the door.
"Scorpius," I laugh. "The door is see through, people will see us."
"And is that so awful?" He asks before placing his lips on mine.
I give in for a moment before gently pushing him away.
"We should get back. They'll be suspicious."
