Hearing that, I felt relieved to hear that from him. "Here, I'll show you where you can stay for tonight!" he told me and I followed him upstairs into the room. He showed me to a hammock set up in his room. "Why did you decide to take me in? You could have just sent me out to deal with it by myself." I asked him. "Well, I wouldn't usually but you seem nice. That crystal you found reminds me of something else we had here in this universe. What's it like in your world?" he asked me. "Well, for starters we don't have all the stuff you guys do right now. It's all people and the animals in our world aren't exactly walking on two legs all the time!" I told him. "That sounds so cool! You must be really lucky to live there!" he added. "I guess I am. I don't have a lot of anything though. My parents never had a lot of money but we have each other. I just wish I could improve their lives. But I'm just a kid who hasn't even started high school yet." I sighed as I relaxed.

"Don't worry, I barely know you but, I'm sure you can figure it out!" Tails said trying to cheer to me up. I smiled. Never once did I think I'd get support from a fictional fox. "Well, we better get some sleep then. We can work some more stuff out tomorrow. Sleep tight Derrick!" he added before falling asleep. I decided I had better get some sleep if I was ever going to get anywhere. But all I could think about was if my parents were worried about me or not.

Finally, after some good hours of sleep, I woke up to the smell of sugar and cinnamon. I ran downstairs to see the yellow fox making some cinnamon rolls for breakfast. "Hey Derrick! Nice to see you're up!" he smiled and he handed me a plate. "You might wanna fuel up! It's gonna be a long day!" he told me. "Thanks! It smells awesome!" I thanked. Usually, I would maintain my manners but, I was so hungry, I couldn't hold back anymore. "Wow, you must be starving!" he joked. "Well, I am. I haven't eaten a meal in 3 days." I mumbled as I ate them. Tails looked at me guilty but then handed me more food. "Here you go! I know it's not much but, it'll help!" he smiled. I took it and ate it happily. Right as I finished, I saw him grabbing a backpack and putting on his shoes. "Where are you going?" I asked. "Oh, I meant to tell you, I have school today! But I'll be back soon!" he replied as he headed to the door. "W-What! Then what am I supposed to do all day?" I cried. "Oh, well, you could just stay back and hang out here. Otherwise, you could always come with me." he replied. It looks like I didn't have much of a choice and this point.

"Alright, I guess it won't hurt." I sighed and got up from the seat I was sitting in. "Well come on! We've gotta hurry there!" he smiled and we walked out the door. Back to the world of craziness. "Follow me, I can get us there safely!" Tails reassured and I ran after him. We walked throughout the busy streets of the video game kingdom and I couldn't believe this was still happening. "I can't believe I'm actually putting my life into an eight-year-old fox's hands. Please tell me no one will kill me!" I murmured. "As long as you stay with me, you should be fine. The place we're going to isn't too bad anyway, we can't use our powers or skills there unless we're told. So it's a normal life until we leave!" Tails explained.

Many things were racing through my mind as we walked to the place. I was wondering how he was going to hide me or something else. At last, we made it to the huge building in the middle of the town that was also near a park. I was awed by how huge it was. Tons of characters and animals or just anything really heading to the building. "Wow... this is a real place?!" I asked astonished. This was amazing! This is literally my dream place! "Yep! This is where we go to high school and learn about different stuff." he replied. "Wait, high school? But you're only 8!" I replied shocked. "I know! I don't come on Tuesdays though, I go to the middle school. But they want me here because of my character. So here I am!" he explained. "Now just follow me, just so you don't get lost!" he added before walking to the doors.
