Maya pushed her head back into the hospital room and both me and Zach averted our gazes to greet her. I could see it on her face that she couldn't wait until he would leave us alone but honestly, especially lately I found myself enjoying his company more than the one of my sister. He was more upfront and I trusted him a whole lot more. Although he was almost like a tornado when he entered the room, his presence had a calming effect on me. I came to the point where I was so fed up with everything going on and not getting any proper answers and he was just there. Paying attention. Being with me.

My sister walked further into the room, her arms folded over her chest as she walked on the other side of the bed I was in, her eyes never leaving Zach. His bushy eyebrow elevated for a moment before he got the hint and let out a sigh. He was preparing to get up and leave to please my sister but my hand on his arm stopped him from moving.

"Maya, stop," I said rather sternly.

Her head shot to the side, big, confused eyes watching me.

"What did I do?"

"That look you're giving him. And you lied about being here alone."

I couldn't hide the front on my forehead. I was tired of this. So tired. This goddamn competition or whatever the fuck it was. She had no real reason to dislike him to this extent. At least none that I would know of. He never said anything and she didn't have a way to really make herself clear either.

Maya's lips parted but before a single sound could slip past them, a nurse knocked against the door frame. A kind, almost shy smile graced her features, blonde locks framing her face. She couldn't be much taller than me, except her look was completed by sky blue eyes.

"Hi, am I interrupting?" she asked in a cheerful voice that slightly threw her off guard.

I smiled and shook my head, glancing at Maya. I had to take a double look to convince myself that was really my sister. She looked as if someone hit her over the head, eyes popped out, lips parted and she needed a few seconds to regain composure.

"Not at all," she squeaked. Where has the confidence gone now, Maya?

The nurse advanced further into the room and instantly furrowed her brows when she noticed the unplugged IV bag that I had pulled out upon awakening.

"Olivia, you shouldn't have done that," she scolded me like I was a child but her voice contained a playful undertone. In return, I gave her an innocent smile, accompanied by a small shrug of my shoulders.

Zach looked at the blonde but it was more of a glance whereas Maya was flat-out staring. It didn't go unnoticed by Zach either and he pressed his lips together to hold back a chuckle before he folded his arms on the edge of the bed and buried half of his face in it, only his eyes and forehead peeking out and turned to me. He was trying so hard not to laugh and I opened my eyes wider at him, mouthing a simple: "Stop."

I could clearly see that twinkle in his eyes that appeared each and every time before he would laugh and if he were do to so, I wouldn't be able to hold it together either.

The nurse was busy writing down my chart but still managed to catch a glimpse of my sister here and there. I squinted in her direction for a moment, trying to get her name tag. Scarlet. Gotcha.

Clearing her throat, Maya finally took a step closer to the nurse and straightened up as if she was trying to act professionally.

"H-how is she? Can I take h-her home?" Wow, smooth.

Scarlet raised her gaze from the chart and held it against her hip but didn't answer.

A doctor, probably in his mid-forties, approached us and held out his hand, taking the chart from the nurse's hand and did a quick overview.
