Chapter 23

I wake up and stretch, and that's when a streak of cream and pale orange crashes into me.

"Petalpaw, what's wrong?" I pant.

"I had a dream, and I wanted you to come with me to Featherstar and Leafheart." she explains quickly.

"Oh. Why me?" I ask.

"Because you're my friend, Hollyflower." she tells me. Oh. That was unexpected.

"Okay." I answer, smiling. I follow her out of the den and across the clearing. She sticks her head inside the leader's den, tail sticking up.

"Featherstar? Featherstar?" She whispers. I hear a small "Come in."

We go inside and sit next to her mossy bed. Featherstar has Leafheart next to her. We all meow quick greetings.

"I had a dream." Petalpaw says.

"Please, tell us." Featherstar meows.

"I saw three kits weaving their way back and forth on the borders. That's all I saw, but..." she looked down thoughtfully.

"That says a lot. It means that the two on each border are mates." Leafheart murmurs, more to herself than us.

My heart races faster. They can't find out that it was me, they just can't! I can't bear to think of what would happen if any cat knew that we're meeting every night!
