Alexandra's POV

"Alexis, stop looking at the prices."
"I can't! This bothers me, John. I can't just take your money!"
"Yes, you can. You deserve to be spoiled. You've gone too long without being spoiled." John hummed, closing his menu and sitting forward. I huffed and made my decision as the waitress came over. I ordered first and John ordered after. When she left John leaned forward and smiled. "I want you to be my girlfriend." I blushed and bit my lip.
   "Um-...I don't know, John."
   "Why not? What's wrong?"
"Well-...I've never been in a relationship, Jacky. I don't know how to do any of this."
"You don't have to. It'll be ok. We can figure it out. Martha was my first girlfriend and she's all I know. You're different. I like this different." He smiled.
"But-...What if we break up? I don't wanna lose you as a friend."
   "You won't."
"But what if it ends in a fight?"
"Martha and I ended in a fight and we're still friends."
   "You are?"
"Yeah...She was gonna call me tonight." I shifted and John smiled lightly. "Baby, it's not like that. I'm done with her. I'm with you now, I promise." He reached across the table and I smiled.
   "Ok...I'm your girlfriend then."
   "And I'm your boyfriend."
"How are we gonna tell Laf and Herc?"
   "I don't know."
"Ooh! Let's wait and see how long it takes then to figure it out!"
"I like that plan, yes." He chuckled.
"Yay!" I giggled, starting to chug my soda.
"Is it legal to be this cute?"
   "I'm used to being illegal."
   "Woah-...What?"
   "It's a joke, we're legal." I whispered.
"Oh my god. You scared me." He laughed. "Have you gotten your scores yet?"
"No...Jamie says they should come in tomorrow." I sighed.
   "Are you nervous?"
   "Hella." I huffed.
"Don't be. I'm sure you did great!" He grinned. "Better than me probably."
"I doubt it. You had an education, I didn't."
"You're still smarter than me from reading books. Maybe the education system should take a page out of your book." He grinned, I snorted at the bad joke and he sighed. "Yeah...It was bad."
"Try awful." I smiled, John chuckled and took a sip of my drink. Our food was served and we dug in.
"I had a lot of fun tonight, Jack." I smiled as John led me up to the porch. I turned to knock but John took my hand and kissed it.
   "I did too. Thank you."
"For what? You're the one who took me out." I giggled.
"For saying yes." He smiled, I grinned and he pulled me closer by the waist. He tugged my chin forward and kissed me gently. I smiled and kissed back. The door swung open and we jumped apart. I glared at James and he grinned.
   "Ten o' clock."
"Ugh! James! Just give me a couple minutes!"
   "Alexis-"
   "Jamie!"
"Fine. As you were." He disappeared into the house and Alexis shut the door. She let her head fall against my chest and groaned. He chuckled and pulled my chin up.
"Shall we continue?" I nodded slowly and he pressed our lips together. I melted into the kiss and relished in his warmth. "You're so beautiful, baby." I blushed and smiled.
"You're very handsome." John chuckled lightly and I smiled.
"I should get going before James explodes."
"Yeah." I giggled, he kissed me one last time before trotting down the steps and getting in his car. I knocked on the door and John didn't leave the driveway until he saw that I was safe with James.
   "So...How was your date?"
"Great!" I grinned, flopping on our bed and hugging my pillow. "I'm his girlfriend, Jamie!" I squealed, he sat on the edge of the bed and sighed.
"Do you like him? Is he good to you?"
"Yes and yes, Jamie." I sighed.
"I'm just trying to keep you safe, Al!" He scoffed.
"I know but I can handle myself! I might be a girl but I still have the balls to defend myself myself! You were never this worried about me when I was still 'Alexander'!" I growled.
   "Alexis, please?"
"No, Jamie! I'm not a little girl! I can handle myself!" James sighed and pinched his nose.
"I know. I know that. I'm sorry. Ok? I'm not trying to-... Alexis-" James huffed and wiped his eyes. "Mom made me promise and swear up and fucking down to take care of you and I can't-" His voice broke and tears slid down his cheeks. "I can't give you everything you want or need. I'm not enough and I know that. I can't send you to college, I can't pay the bills, I can't afford to get you what you need for your transition, I can't provide for you. I failed her." He cried quietly and huffed. "I'm sorry, Alexis."
"No...Don't apologize." I mumbled, wiping my own tears and crawling towards him. "You're doing your best. Your best is all I could ask for. I don't care if I go to college, I don't care if I transition or not. You're my brother. I love you, Jamie." I hugged him and he smiled.
   "But I failed h-"
"If she were here-" My voice broke a little and I took a breath. "-I think she'd say she's proud of you and she loves you."
   "I miss her." He whispered.
"I miss her too." I whispered, my phone buzzed and I glanced down at it. It was a goodnight text from John with a heart. I smiled and James glanced at it.
   "Do you really like him?"
"Yes...I do. He's really sweet, Jamie."
"Alright...but I've got my eye in him."
"Ok, fine but no more interrupting us. Ok?"
"Fine." He groaned, wiping his face and sighing. "I don't care what you two do. Just make sure it's consensual and be safe."
"Jamie!" I gasped, whacking him with my pillow. He laughed and tackled me. Soon we were wrestling on the bed and James wrapped me up in a blanket burrito. I giggled and he chuckled.
"Alright. Get ready for bed, nerd." He let me out and I skipped into the bathroom. "I love you, Alexis!" James called.
   "I love you too!"
