Hamilton (Part 2)

A/N - Can I just like sleep and never wake up

John's POV

   "Excuse me, ma'am, did you see a girl with curly red hair in there?" I asked a waitress who was leaving the bathroom.
   "Yes, she ran in crying. I hope she's ok."
   "Thank you." I pushed into the bathroom and ducked to look under the stalls. I saw Alexis' shoes and her skirt and sighed. "Lexis? Unlock the door please?"
   "You're not supposed to be here." She grumbled.
   "Does it look like I care? Open the door." I heard rustling and the lock clicked. I pushed the door open and swept her off the ground. "First off, you're gonna get your skirt all dirty and second, I wanna kiss you." I smiled, setting her on her feet and kissing her.
   "He's right." She sniffed.
   "No, he's wrong. He's just like everyone else on that stupid island of yours. Dumb. Stupid. Ignorant. You are whatever you say you are. Be proud of yourself. Cause I am."
   "But mom-"
   "Would be so proud of you, baby. C'mon. Dry those tears." I wiped away her tears and she looked up at me.
   "I love you, John."
   "I love you too. Now. C'mon, let's go show your deadbeat dad what a beautiful, smart young woman you are." She nodded and I entwined our fingers. We sat back down at the table and Alexis sipped on her drink. Hamilton seemed to be lecturing James on gender and he wasn't having it.
   "Look. Alex came to me a couple years ago and explained this. How could I not support her?" James growled. "It took some getting used to but who are we to judge her for who she is?"
   "It's not right. Your gender is what-"
   "I want it to be." Alexis snapped. "You left us seven years ago! You left us with your stupid debt and when mama got sick she-...She died because we couldn't afford to help her! You can't tell me what I am!" She stammered. "I-...I'm a girl." She stated firmly.
   "I get off in ten minutes. Would you two like to discuss this somewhere else?"
   "Sure." James muttered, Alexis nodding her head. Hamilton got up and hurried off to the kitchen. He brought us our food and we started to eat. James asked Alexis about college and what not and I just ate quietly. "So, John. Are you going home for the holiday?"
   "Uh...No. I don't think I'm welcome there anymore. Not that I was in the first place but still." I sighed, poking at my food.
   "Ah...Well, I know the Washingtons celebrate Christmas and I'm sure Alexis would love to have you over."
  "Oh, wow. Thank you but I wouldn't wanna intrude."
   "Nonsense." James smiled, I nodded and we continued to eat.
   "Alright, here's your check." He set it towards me and James snatched it up. He dumped the cash I'd given him on the table and glared at his father. I looked away and Hamilton left. James sighed and gave me a thankful smile. "And here's your change." James took it and stuffed it in his wallet. "Alright. I'm off now. There's a park a couple blocks from here. We can talk."
   "Sure." We got up and went our separate ways to get to the park. James sat in an angry silence and Alexis stared out the window sadly.
   "Um-...Do y'all want me to stay in the-"
   "No." They both answered at once, I shifted and turned on my blinker.
   "Ok..." I mumbled, drawing out the word and taking my turn. "Everything ok?"
   "Fine." James mumbled.
   "Sorry, Jacky." Alexis mumbled. "I know you wanted to have a nice lunch and-"
   "It's ok, Lexis. Maybe some other time. Yeah?" Both Hamiltons nodded and I smiled. I pulled into the parking lot and turned off the car. "Are you guys sure you don't want me to-"
   "I'm sure." Alexis smiled, we got out and I paused as I saw my reflection in the window. "John? Come on." I smiled and ran my fingers through my gelled hair. "What's wrong?"
   "Uh-...I appreciate the hair but-..." I pulled it out and messed it up. "Your dad doesn't deserve the hair."
   "Aw, that's a shame." Alexis giggled. "I'm gonna miss the handsome, sexy hair."
   "Oh hush." I laughed, entwining our fingers and meeting James on the grass.
   "Is it too late to say we got in a car accident?"
   "Um-...Seeing as it's my car...no thank you." I chuckled, James laughed light-heartedly and I squeezed Alexis' hand. We spotted Hamilton sitting at a bench and made our way over. James sat beside his father while Alexis and I sat opposite.
   "Uh-...I don't believe I've had the pleasure." Hamilton started, stretching out his hand to me. "James Hamilton Senior."
   "John Laurens." I smiled, abstaining from shaking his hand. "I'm Alexis' boyfriend."
   "Boyf-..." He sighed heavily and turned to Alexis. "Alexander, I thought you knew better than this. You are a man. What is all this?" He asked, gesturing to her hair, make up, dress, and breasts. Alexis looked away and James glared angrily.
   "Fuck you. What is wrong with you! You disappear for seven fucking years and now you're back and you have the audacity to question Alexis' life choices? Hell, my choices as her guardian!" James barked. "You have some fucking nerve. Alexis is attending King's College on a full ride academic scholarship. Her grades are exceptional and she's made some friends. Mom would be so proud of her if she could see her now."
   "Really? You think so?" He scoffed.
   "She used to braid my hair when it got long...Don't you remember?"
   "You're telling me your mother messed you up and turned you gay?"
  "No! She didn't mess me up! I'm not gay either! I'm bisexual." She grumbled.
   "What about you? Are you the one telling her this is ok?" He barked, turning on me and glaring.
   "Yes, sir. Alexis is a fine young woman."
   "Can you three hear yourselves?" He scoffed.
   "Enough of this. You left. You cannot come back like this and expect to be our parent. I am Alexis' guardian and I have down everything to protect her and give her everything she needs to succeed in life. That includes her being comfortable in her own skin. If that means changing her name and pronouns then fine. I support her, one hundred percent and you should too."
