My dad had started to take me out more in the last year to get me more used to the wizarding world, as of course, I'd be at Hogwarts soon. This year instead of going to the burrows for my birthday, we invited everyone to our house. As soon as the Weasleys got here, Fred, George and I had made a run for it to my room, they had never been to my house before because there wasn't really room for everyone, but we made it work because it was my 11th birthday, when I'd finally get my letter. The twins had their birthday early in the year and had already gotten their letters but my birthday was around the end of July so I wouldn't get mine till then.
"When do you think you'll get your letter today?" George and Fred asked at the same time, which I've always thought was funny.
"I think I'll get it after I blow out my candles."
"Really? You think?" Fred asked.
"I mean, if Dumbledore has anything to do with the letters, I do think so."
"She's got a point Fred" George said.
"Come on down kiddos, time for presents and treats!" Dad yelled from the kitchen.
The three of us came running downstairs to the living room and they sat on the floor in front of Aunt Molly and Uncle Arthur, while I sat in between my parents on our smaller couch. My muggle grandparents got me a beautiful necklace with a purple pendant, my magic grandparents got me Newt Scamander's book 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them', the Weasleys got me 'One Minute Feasts - It's Magic' because of my love for cooking, Fred and George had made me a piggy bank type of money storage that looks like a niffler and finally, my parents got me an owl. At first I couldn't think of what I wanted to name my barn owl, but then I had it, Daisy!
"That's a good name sweetie" my mom and dad told me, "Time to eat our pumpkin pastries and blow out candles."
We all went over to the kitchen, my mom had found a way to crame 11 candles on the pastry and somehow managed to get everyone in our kitchen too.
"This might be the last year we do candles kiddo" my dad said and we both laughed.
"Seems like it'll have to be." I said.
"Make your wish kiddo."
I looked around the room before closing my eyes to make my wish, what could I wish for? I have all these amazing people around me, what could make any of this better? OH! That was it, as I closed my eyes, there was a gentle knock at the door, I knew what it was right away. I blew out my candles as fast as I could, dropped my pastry on my plate and ran to the door.
"What is it?" Everyone was asking one after the other.
"IT'S MY LETTER! I'M GOING TO HOGWARTS!" I yelled.
"That's my girl." My dad said as George and Fred pulled me into a hug.
"We're all going together." They said at the same time, making me laugh.
And just like that, it was the best birthday. And the next two weeks were chaos, getting all my school supplies and my dad teaching me some last minute things he thought I might need to know, the sorting being one. My dad's family was mostly Gryffindors with a few Ravenclaws here and there and of course, my mom never went. My dad told me that no matter what house I'd be sorted into, I'd still be his little witch. He'd been calling me his little witch since I got my letter and although I didn't really mind, it was a bit embarrassing in front of Fred and George. I hoped that I'd be sorted into Gryffindor with Fred and George but I couldn't help but have a feeling I won't be. That being the first thing I hadn't told the twins.
The last thing to do before going to Hogwarts was to get my wand. My dad and I headed to Diagon Alley to go to Ollivanders. Once we got in the store, Mr. Ollivander greeted us and immediately knew I was a first year getting my first wand.
"Welcome, I see we have a young witch looking for her first wand, am I right?" He asked with a smile.
"Uh yes" I said, I turned to my dad, "Am I supposed to do something?" I asked him, a little confused.
"No dear, the wand chooses the witch or wizard, I'll give you a wand and if it's not the one for you, we'll know." Mr. Ollivander said while going through shelves of wands, not even looking at us.
"Oh, ok."
"Here, try this one, Unicorn hair core, 12 inches, inflexible, English oak, go on, try it dear."
I took the wand from him and held it, we stood there for a few seconds before the chair my dad sat on broke.
"Oh no! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to break anything!" I said, apologizing profusely.
"Calm down dear, that just means this wand is not the one for you, funny enough a broken chair is the last thing I expected with you being so close to Fred and Geogre Weasley, I figured my ink box might explode at the very least." he said while my dad gave me a small hug to comfort me. "Now, try this one, Dragon heartstring core, 11 ¼ inches, extremely flexible, hawthorn."
Again this wasn't the right wand for me. We tried several others before we found the one for me.
"I believe this is the one, Unicorn hair core, 10 inches, somewhat flexible, cherry wood, here, try it out."
This was the one for me, I could feel it.
"How wonderful, similar to your father's but not quite the same, how wonderful."
My dad and I left and went home, only a few more days till I'd be at Hogwarts. As soon as we got home, I wrote to George and Fred, telling them about my wand and what all happened, I also said that on the train I'd like to talk to them about something, not making it clear what it was about.
"Daisy, I hope it's not too late for you to bring this to the burrows?" I asked her. She gave me a nod and grabbed it from me, "Thank you Daisy."
I couldn't sleep well for the last couple days before going to Hogwarts, I felt bad that all this time Fred, George and I had hoped to be Gryffindors together and now, I couldn't shake the feeling I wouldn't be and that I didn't tell them. I'd tell them on the train, it'd be better to tell them late than never, right? Fred and George have always been caring and understanding, it'll be fine.
