I woke up early this morning to meet George before breakfast, but when I woke up, apparently I forgot I had a dorm mate because it startled me when I saw her in the other bed. She turned over in her sleep and once I saw her face, I regained my memories from last night's introductions. I was careful to get ready without waking Amber and even managed to write her a little note wishing her good luck on her first day before I left to meet George with my Charms books. I walked up the stairs from the basement of the castle and found Georgie waiting outside the Great Hall for me.
"You're actually here at this time? I thought for sure you'd be late and I'd be waiting for you, but here you are, here before me." I said, sounding surprised.
"I wasn't going to make you wait after our fight yesterday, I don't want you to stay cross with me Rayne." He responded quickly.
"You think I'm cross? I'm not cross Georgie, I just wish you hadn't done that. Especially because now Cedric thinks you're cross with him and he even said he's scared to go to Charms today."
"I did think you were cross with me because of how you snapped at me yesterday and Cedric said that?"
"Yes, he told me that last night before heading to our dorms."
"I'll talk with him hopefully before Charms. Rayne, I am truly sorry about what happened yesterday, you should have been cross with me, I don't control what happens with you and your other friends. How are you so patient with me?"
"I'm not just patient with you, I'm like this with everyone because this is who I am, did you not see the badger on the crest on my robe? Or the yellow trim?" I said giggling.
"I don't know how I forgot." He responded, laughing along.
"We better head to breakfast now so we actually have time to eat before Charms. I'll meet you after breakfast Georgie." I said, flashing him a quick smile before disappearing into the Great Hall and heading towards the Hufflepuff table.
I went to sit down next to Cedric as I always did last year but when I got where we sat, there was a swarm of people around him. He gave me an apologetic look before it turned to a desperate kind of 'save me' look. I giggled a little before giving him an apologetic look back right before I heard,
"Hey Rayne, want to sit next to me?" Amber said from just a couple feet away. I took a quick look back at Cedric before sitting down next to her. "So why'd you leave so early this morning? Oh and thanks for the note too, I truly appreciate it."
"You're welcome. I had gotten in a fight with a friend yesterday and we met before breakfast to talk about it and mend it." I said without thinking. Why would I tell a girl I just met that? I felt so embarrassed. I felt comfortable talking to her and it just came out.
"I'm glad you guys mended things, wait, was that the guy you were talking to outside the Great Hall?"
"Er- yeah, he's really great honestly, it was really just a misunderstanding."
"What's his name? Oh- who's the one that looks exactly like him?" She said while pointing at Fred and George at the Gryffindor table.
"George was the one I was talking to and the other is Fred, they're the Weasley twins, Gryffindor pranksters. Talk of Hogwarts since our sorting ceremony last year."
"That's them?!? I heard about them! Hold on, they're your best friends?!?"
"Yes, I've been friends with them since before I can even remember and Cedric is my best friend too."
"That cute guy you went to sit with? That's Cedric Diggory?"
    "Diggory in the flesh, yeah."
"I'm sorry I seem so interested in them, I've heard plenty of them but I know so little of you. Are you doing anything after dinner tonight?"
    "Not that I know of."
"Great, then would you want to hang with me in the common room? We can talk and become good friends."
"Sounds like a plan. I'll see you later, I've got to run. Wouldn't want to be late to my first lesson of the year."
I sped out of the Great hall, meeting George and Fred in the hallway, Cedric joining us soon after and we all walked to Charm together. Fred and I talked about quidditch tryouts on the way while Cedric and George resolved yesterday's issue.
All my lessons flew by. It felt like I was just talking to Amber during breakfast and now I was eating dinner with Cedric on one side and Amber on the other. We were talking about quidditch tryouts like I had with Fred this morning. Amber told me that though she's never seen either me or Cedric fly, she was certain we were both meant to represent the Hufflepuff team. After dinner, Amber and I were heading to the common room and Cedric came along because as he said at dinner, he somehow didn't have plans, so we invited him to join us. We got to the common room and the three of us claimed the smaller couch because if older students came, we would give up the bigger couch to them anyhow. Normally you'd be fine to sit on the bigger couch until about 10pm, that's usually when the fifth, sixth and seventh years would come back to the common room because that's curfew. I'm sure that in the slytherin common room, once the seventh years got there, anyone under fifth year disappeared to their dorms. I'm sure of it because Draguar told me. It's nothing like that in the Hufflepuff common room, us younger years give up the larger couch to the older years simply because it's our way of showing respect to them. Never have they asked us to but we do it nonetheless.
"So Rayne and Cedric, let's start with the basics, what's your favourite colour?" Amber asked once we were settled on the couch.
"Yellow through and through." Cedric said with pride.
"I could never pick just one, but my favourites are yellow, purple, green, blue and red. What are yours?" I said.
"Orange and black, I know they seem like Halloween colours but I adore them." Amber added.
"Might I guess that your favourite holiday is Halloween?" I asked.
"Yes, how'd you know?" She joked. "What is your favourite holiday?"
"Mine's Valentine's day. My parents always do incredible things for one another and it is just a lovely day to remind people you love them." Cedric said.
"You do seem like a lover boy Cedric." I added, teasing him a little. "Personally I quite like Christmas. It has the most amazing memories for me and I've spent every Christmas with George and Fred. We tend to get up to some mischief together." I continued, thinking of last Christmas break when my mom and I taught the three boys to skate and how funny it was.
"What are you laughing about Rayne?" Cedric asked curiously.
"I was just thinking of last Christmas break when you and the twins learnt to skate, you three were like baby giraffes on their new legs." I responded, unable to contain my laughter.
"That sounds like quite the time, I can only imagine Cedric was the first to pick it up?" Amber asked inquisitively.
"Yes I was." Cediric responded with pride.
"I'd quite like to hear more stories but for now I believe we should be heading to bed. Goodnight Cedric, again pleasure to meet you, are you coming Rayne?" Amber said as she got off the couch and started to head to the girls dorms.
"Right behind you, goodnight Cedric, see you tomorrow at breakfast."
"Goodnight Amber, goodnight Rayne, see you at breakfast." He said as he got up and headed for the boys dorms.
"He's a lovely fellow." Amber said as we got ready for bed in our dorm. "How'd you two meet if you don't mind me asking."
"It's quite funny actually, I dropped my trunk while getting on the Hogwarts Express last year and he tripped over it." I said with a giggle.
"That is quite funny. Well, goodnight Rayne." She said, crawling into bed.
    "Goodnight Amber."
I crawled into my bed, rolled over under my covers and was out like a light.

Sorry this chapter is late, but you know, at least I still posted it during the same week. Hope it was worth the unexpected wait.

Take care :)
