Here at long last! First chapter of Rayne's third year, where my story begins to follow the plot of Philosopher's Stone!

The rest of the summer flew by. I had gone to Ash's for a day and I met his twin sister Vixen, she's a Slytherin and a nice one at that. I also went to Cedric's for Uncle Amos and Mrs. Diggory's anniversary. I spent a week at the Burrows as I usually do for Ginny's birthday and similar to what she'd done for me last year, I took her out to the field to make her something with flowers. I ended up doing a sort of braid crown, I put white potentillas in the braid and they were an incredible contrast to her beautiful red hair. I enjoyed my summer a lot, but I was pretty excited to get back to Hogwarts, especially that this is Ron's first year and Ginny's last year waiting to join us.
We met up with the Diggorys and Weasleys at Kings Cross station as usual. We unloaded my trunk from the car and Mom and Dad kissed me on the forehead, wished me the best of luck and were in a hurry off somewhere. Uncle Amos wished us all a good year before leaving us children with Aunt Molly and Uncle Arthur. Percy went first through the wall this year as Charlie was no longer in school.
"Fred, you next." Aunt Molly told him.
"I'm not Fred, I'm George." He said clearly, though I knew he was pulling another trick. "Honestly woman, you call yourself our mother. Can't you tell I'm George?"
"Sorry George dear." She said and the twins and I started giggling.
"Only joking, I am Fred." He said as he ran off towards the wall.
George followed right after and Cedric and I went through the wall quickly as well. Before I went through I'd noticed a small boy approach Aunt Molly, Ron and Ginny. He seemed lost, she'll help him. We loaded our trunks into our compartment and Cedric stayed watch of them as the twins and I went to say goodbye to Aunt Molly and Ginny. I'd already made my way off the train when I noticed the small boy in a compartment window, then I saw George and Fred seemingly helping him. Then in an instant, they looked shocked.
"Fred? George? Aren't you coming?" I called out.
"Coming." They called back.
"Where's Percy?" Aunt Molly asked.
"Look, there he is..." I said trailing off seeing him already in his robe with an almost glowing Prefect badge on it. "Percy, be careful, you'll blind someone with that." I said pointing at the badge.
"Oh shut it Rayne, the twins already teased me for talking about it this summer, you spend too much time with them." He told me forcefully. "See you Mum." She gave him a kiss on the cheek and then he was off to the prefect compartments.
"Now you two- if I get one more owl that you've- you've blown up a toilet or-"
"We haven't done that one." Fred said.
"Yet Freddie. Yet." George joked.
"You two will be the death of me. Rayne, look after them and Ron please."
"No worries Aunt Molly, I'll try to keep these two under wraps and I shouldn't have to look after Ron too much, he's more well behaved than Freddie and Georgie." I teased.
"Mum, guess what?" Fred said.
"Guess who we met?" George added.
"Who?"
"You know black-haired boy we saw in the station?"
"You know who he is?"
"Who?"
"Harry Potter!" They both said excitedly.
"Can I go see him, please mum?" Ginny asked.
"He's not an animal in a zoo. How do you know it's him?"
"We asked him."
"And we saw his scar, it really is like lightning."
"I wonder if he remembers what You-know-who looks like?"
"Don't you dare even think about asking him Fred, the poor kid doesn't need to be reminded of that on his first day."
*The station whistle blew*
"Hurry up!" She told us.
We all got on the train, Fred, George and Ron leaned out the window for Aunt Molly to kiss them and Ginny became crying.
"We'll see you at Christmas!" I told her, but that didn't stop her crying. "Don't Ginny, we'll send you loads of owls."
"We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat."
"George!"
"Only joking mum."
They waved to Aunt Molly and Ginny as the train started to move. I made my way to our compartment, paying close attention to every compartment I passed in case it was Harry's. There it was, just a few over from ours. I'd come back later to see if he has anyone to sit with and if not, I'll keep him company if he wants. Cedric welcomed the twins and I to our compartment and we all got talking. We talked about the parts of summer we weren't together for and the excitement of getting to start our new lessons.
"Which ones did you decide to take Cedric?" I asked.
"Study of Ancient Runes and uh- I think it was Divination."
"We took Divination too."
"Dad forced us to take Muggle Studies as our second lesson."
"Great! We're all in Divination! I also took Care of Magical Creatures."
"We figured." Fred said with a chuckle.
"We're going to go see the tarantula Lee Jordan brought. Care to join us?" George asked Cedric and I.
"No thank you." Cedric told him.
"Your loss." Fred said as they left.
Cedric and I continued talking for a while when a young bushy-haired girl slid open the compartment door with a small distraught looking boy behind her.
"Hello, I'm Hermoine, Neville here has lost his toad Trevor, have either of you seen him?"
"No we haven't, would you like me to help you look?" I asked them.
"I'm sure it'd be helpful having another pair of eyes looking, what do you say Neville?" Hermoine asked him.
"Yes." Neville said in a hushed desperate sort of whisper.
"I'll see you later Cedric, you won't be alone for long I promise." I reassured him as I left with Hermoine and Neville.
"So what year are you two in? Let me guess. Neville, you're a first year and Hermione, you must be at least a second year or third year with how you carry yourself, though you look too young to be a third year."
"You're right about me being a first year, uh- what's your name?" Neville asked sheepishly.
"Oh yes, how rude of me, I'm Rayne Dutchman."
"Well Rayne, I'm in my first year as well." Hermoine told me.
She opened a few more compartments, asked them if they'd seen a toad, they told us no and we moved on. We reached Harry's compartment and Hermione did the same as every other time.
"He'll turn up." Harry told Neville.
"Hey Ron, glad to see you making friends." I told him with a bit of pride. "And without using physical force I hope." I teased, knowing he'd understand my joke to how I met Cedric.
"Yes." He said with a laugh. "Harry, this is Rayne, you remember Fred and George, my brothers who popped their heads in?"
"Yes." He somewhat blankly, I'm sure it's because he didn't know where Ron was going with that information.
"Well Rayne here is their best friend, she's like an older sister to me."
"Nice to meet you Harry. I've got to go help find Trevor, see you two around." I said with a smile.
Hermoine stood and talked with them for a bit while Neville and I continued the search for Trevor.
"So Neville, tell me something about yourself."
"Well, I was raised by my grandmother and I didn't show any abilities of magic until just recently which led to me getting my letter."
"That's interesting, you seem sweet Neville, do you have any siblings?"
"No, my parents only had me before they- er-"
"You don't have to tell me. Some things are better left unsaid." I gave him a gentle side hug, still looking diligently for the toad he'd lost.
"What year are you in Rayne?"
"I'm just starting my third."
"When did you first show magic abilities?"
"Pretty sure it was Mother's day. I wanted to give my mom some yellow roses to show her that she makes me happy and she's radiant as sunshine, but I could only find red roses. So I bought them with my dad and on the drive home we watched as they all turned yellow one by one."
"That's amazing, you sound like a wonderful and kind person Rayne."
"I try my best."
"You must be a Hufflepuff, am I right?"
"Uh- yes actually, how'd you piece that together?"
"You didn't hesitate to help me even though you didn't know me. You made sure I didn't get uncomfortable explaining my parent situation so you intervinted and you humbled yourself when I complimented you."
"You sound rather confident about that and you aren't wrong. I suppose you'll be a Gryffindor."
"N-no way. Me? Confident? A Gryffindor? You're joking."
"Nope, not in the least..." I paused. "There! I think that's Trevor!" I exclaimed pointing at the toad jumping into a crowded compartment. Hermoine had caught up to us at this point.
We made our way over quickly, this was the compartment where Lee Jordan was showing his tarantula to anyone who would look. We each squeezed between and around people until the twins saw me.
"Rayne, so glad you could make it." Jelly bean told me.
"I'm not here for the tarantula." I said quickly, continuing to scan the floor.
"Look Lee is going to feed a toad to the tarantula!" Freddie said with a smirk.
"That must be Trevor!" I said panicked.
"Trevor! That's my toad!" Neville cried as he made his way to Lee.
"Oh, I didn't realize it was anyone's, it was just jumping around." Lee said.
"We've been searching for it for a long time, c'mon Neville." I called out as I left the compartment.
"So glad you caught him before they fed him to the tarantula." Hermione said with a sigh of relief.
"Thank you Hermione and Rayne, I wouldn't have found him without your help."
"Don't worry about it, I'll be around, don't hesitate to ask me for help again Neville." I told him. "I better get back to my compartment, I'll see you two later at the sorting ceremony."
The twins came out of Lee's compartment and we made our way back to Cedric, who as I suspected, had someone in our compartment to keep him from being alone.
"Awfully rude of them to leave you alone, don't you think?" A sixth year slytherin girl said flirtatiously.
I slid the door open, "Well, we're back now, so if you could get out of my seat, that'd be wonderful." I said with a perfectly maintained smile.
"No need to be so hostile, I was just keeping him company while you left him." She hissed.
"He was well aware I went to help someone but no matter, you're in my seat."
"I'm just trying to have a little fun Rayne." She said looking up at me.
That's when I realized who she is, of course it's her, Sage Cassowary. I hadn't even met her in person until now. Not the best way to make acquaintances.
"Sage, just leave please." I said gently.
"Giving up the fight so fast? You're boring anyway, wouldn't want to be friends with a mudblood like you." She hissed as she tried to leave. "What are you doing Weasley? I don't even know which one you are."
"Doesn't matter, though you'll find out real fast. You don't get to call my best friend that hideous slur without paying for it, it makes you sound disgusting just like your face already is." Jelly bean told her stone faced guarding the door, he is pissed.
"George! It's not that big a deal!" I lied, it hurts a lot, but I don't want to cause a scene.
"Aw, how cute, you're George. Well you heard her, it's not that big a deal, now move."
"Sage, you are going to leave Rayne alone or I will make you pay and I won't be as kind as right now." He told her calmly with a fire blazing in his eyes. "Now get out of here before I change my mind."
She scurried away and all three boys immediately started asking me if I was ok.
"Yes." I said quickly. George pulled me into a hug and I started sobbing, "N-no."
"It's alright darling. I'm here, Cedric's here and so is Freddie. We'd better go get changed though, we're arriving at Hogwarts in about 10 minutes. Dry those tears Winnie." He said softly as he wiped away my tears.
"It's Ron's sorting ceremony, I can't wait to see if he's a Gryffindor, Neville as well." I said changing the topic to help dry my tears.
We got changed and unloaded our trunked from the train. I waved to Neville when we caught each other's eye. He returned it with a look of concern and I realized it was because my eyes were still a bit puffy and pink from crying.
We are back at the best school. Where would I be if not here? I can't imagine anywhere else I'd rather be with my best friends.
