blue violetsDon't act awkward around her. Don't act awkward around her. Don't act awkward around her.
That's what Gwyneth's been chanting in her head ever since the boyfriends dropped her off at her apartment. And that was 15 minutes ago. She stood in front of the complex, staring at the building like an idiot with her face flushed pink. People walked by and gave her weird stares from afar but she didn't care.
She was nervous.
She was so nervous that she didn't even notice Adelyn in front of her, waving her hand with confusion on her face. Gwyneth jumped a few inches away from her after seeing her face too close to hers.
"Quinn texted me like minutes ago saying they dropped you off but you didn't come in so I thought you went to the store or something. But you took too long so I went out to see you and here you are!"
An awkward smile emerged from Gwyneth's face; her eyes were squinted ever so slightly, with her teeth shown barely in the smallest smile she let out. She looked, without a doubt, stupid in anyone's eyes. Especially in her own. She wanted to hit herself for going against her own wishes. The emotions she wanted to hide from the person she admires were too strong for her to handle. The kiss they shared the night before resurfaced in her mind, making her cheeks turn a shade of light pink.
Adelyn giggled, seeing her friend blush all on her own. "What are you thinking about? You're turning red." Her hand, so so close to her friend's cheeks touched her forehead instead, checking if Gwyneth has a fever. But no, she didn't. Gwyneth was thinking about things she didn't want Adelyn to know.
"I-it's nothing. Blake told me about his shenanigans with Quinn and I just remembered them so suddenly. C'mon, let's go inside. I wanna start my requirements for the week."

It was 1am, hours after their awkward encounter outside their apartment complex and their dinner too when Adelyn woke up from her slumber feeling thirsty. It was dark outside, except from the balcony light that they always keep on at night. The bedroom door across hers was ajar but there wasn't a hint of dim brightness inside it. She was confused since Gwyneth would never sleep with all of her lights off. She wasn't too fond of the dark, hence why their balcony light was always open. Adelyn peeked inside Gwyneth's room and her friend wasn't there. She worriedly opened all the lights in the hallway, living room, and kitchen to see it empty as well. She quickly grabbed a bottle of water before walking down the hallway back to her room to grab her phone, and when she started to dial her friend's number, she heard her voice nearby. It was faint, inaudible even, but she can hear it. Not exactly the words but her voice alone let her mind be at peace. She was about to slide the door open but she saw Gwyneth talking on her phone with a cigarette in her hand. The smoke evaporated into thin air along with her words she said over the phone.
"... say? That I've loved you ever since we met? Happy now, Ichika?"
Adelyn walked backwards slowly with each step, processing what she just heard. Did her best friend confess to Ichika? She had a crush, wait no, she loves Ichika? She was undeniably in shock, and she felt as if her legs gave up on her while heart felt heavy with emotions. Sure, she should be happy for her best friend but why was she feeling this way?
Meanwhile, Gwyneth was frustratedly thankful for Ichika for their conversation. She couldn't sleep properly and needed someone to vent about her "Adelyn issues" as Ichika phrased it. Telling her friend about what's in her mind helped her a lot. Sure, her problem's not solved and all but, she could breathe properly now that she told Ichika about what's been happening recently. Her friend gave her eye opening ideas that could help with her relationship with Adelyn and she was sure to use it.
Gwyneth will do anything for Adelyn. She's sure of it.
