Lane's POV

Sophie and I sat in the back of Home Ec for our "Thanksgiving" dinner.  Neither one of us brought a recipe so we didn't get to join in.  I didn't even care.  This was the last class before break anyway, four days off and I needed it.

I put my elbows on my desk and pressed my fingers against my temples, trying to push my headache away, "you ok, Lane?"

"Yeah, just have a headache."

"You ain't looking so good."

I offered her a small smile, "I'm alright. Promise."  We watched the rest of the class eat and chat with eachother, "we shoulda skipped, huh? Angel had the right idea."

Sophie rolled her eyes, "no shit, but I told Steve that I wouldn't get in anymore trouble."

"Whaddya mean?  It ain't like you got in trouble last time."

Sophie looked uncomfortable, "well...I kinda did," she looked down, embarrassed.

I decided not to pry.  She'll tell me if she wants too.  I groaned and watched the hands on the clock creep along.  We were never going to get out of here.  Finally, the bell rang.  Sophie and I booked it out of there as fast as we could.

We ran into my house.  I plopped on the couch and rested my head on the arm rest.  Soph did the same on the other side.  None of our brothers were home and the rest of the gang was doing god knows what else.  I pulled out my blade and did some small cuts on my arm.  I had rows of similar cuts on the inside of my forearm.

"What are those?" Soph asked.

"I'm keeping track of how many times, Patricia makes a comment bout my parents being dead."

"She is such a bitch!" Soph exclaimed.  "Ugh, I hate her and her minions."

I raised my eyebrow at her, "we could jump her."  I smirked at the thought of that.

"No school tomorrow, but Soda, Darry, and Steve gotta work," I could hear the wheels in Sophie's head turning.

"Pone will be somewhere with Johnny."

Sophie grinned an evil grin, "Tomorrow, we take that bitch down."

Sophie's POV

Lane and I waited outside Patricia's house that next morning.  We needed her to leave so we could jump her.  Around 11:00, she walked out and headed down the street.  We followed close behind her until we were by an alleyway.  Lane ran up behind her and shoved her into the alley.

She sprawled on the ground, her purse fell to the ground, "What the?" She squealed, as soon as she saw us, her eyes widened with fear.

"Not so tough now without your fuckin' friends, are ya?" Lane screamed in her face.  She kicked her in the stomach.

Adrenaline ran through my veins.  I pulled her up and punched her the face.  Patricia was crying, pleading with us to stop.  I held her arms back and let Lane get a few punches in.  Lane spit in her face, "don't you ever say a damn word about me or my parents ever again.  You breathe a word of this to anyone and we'll kick your ass again."

"Snitches get stitches," I growled in her ear.  I dropped her to the ground.  She laid there, sobbing into the concrete, "let's go."

Lane held up her finger.  She pulled out ger blade and cut of some chunks of Patricia's hair.  She tossed the hair on the ground and we ran out of the alley.  We didn't stop until we hit the vacant lot.  "You good," I asked her.

"Yeah.  Cut my knuckles on her teeth, but other than that, she didn't get a hit in."  She held up her bleeding knuckles, "you good?"

"Not even a scratch." We headed back to Lane's.  I didn't even feel bad for jumping Patricia.  The socs jumped greasers all the time.  She had it comin' too.

The adrenaline was starting to wear off.    We flopped on the couch, my head on one end, hers on the other.  Before I knew it, we were both asleep.

I had no idea that all hell was about to break loose with me and Lane in the thick of it.
