Renjun and Yujin stared at each other in silence.
Yujin had dragged him inside and closed the door again before telling Taeil that she'd call him back later. The harvest mouse inside her was freaking out because it was scared of the wolf underneath Renjun's collected exterior but she knew that she couldn't let that fear control her thoughts.
"What is going on?" he asked as he followed how she was gripping her phone so hard that her fingers turned white.
"What did you hear?" Yujin asked in return. Everything was changing so quickly that it was difficult to keep up - all she knew for sure was that she needed to control the amount of information she would let out about her departure. She hoped that Renjun hadn't heard anything and that he was just bluffing so that she'd tell him.
Renjun's eyes narrowed. Yujin's animal side wanted to hide underneath something.
"I heard that you're planning to go to China", he said slowly.
Damn it.
"What I'm planning to do isn't any of your business", she said through her teeth, trying to sound like she had everything under control.
"While it might not be my business, it is theirs", he pointed out, nodding towards the general area of the apartment. "Are you going to tell them or do I have to do it?"
Yujin's eyes widened and her posture stiffened. "You can't tell them!" she hissed, her hold of the phone tightening even more. "Especially since I'm not completely sure what I'm going to do."
Renjun's intimidating stare made Yujin avert her gaze even though she wanted to stay strong.
"Based on your reaction, I'm pretty sure that you've already made your decision", he told her before crossing his arms. "And, in relation to that, for what reason are you expecting me to join your deception?"
His dramatic attitude earned an eye-roll from Yujin. "Aren't you a bit too much?"
"I'm not going to stand around all day, waiting for you to answer me", Renjun threatened her.
"It's better for them not to know because they'll try to stop me." Yujin gave up begrudgingly before he'd run off to the others. Her voice was frustrated and she looked at the walls, not wanting to face his judgmental eyes. "This entire mess isn't my fault but if I stay, I might make it worse. It's safer for your pack if I leave and go somewhere where I won't be connected to you."
Renjun huffed. "There you go again, acting all high and mighty."
Yujin glared at him. "I'm trying to keep you safe!"
"You're trying to make yourself feel less guilty by telling yourself that you're making the hard choices for the others", he said. While Yujin's voice had grown irritated, Renjun remained as cool as a bucket of ice water. "You think that because you had a challenging childhood or something, you're somehow more capable of deciding things for the others."
"Aren't you the one acting all high and mighty right now?" Yujin asked. Confusion mixed with the anger in Renjun's eyes. "You've disliked me from the beginning, hoping that I'd get kicked out, haven't you? I know that you're worried about your friends and I have nothing against that but why are you preaching to me about leaving when you're the one wanting me gone?"
"I didn't want you here because it was clear that you'd end up hurting us", he answered. "Granted, I thought that it would happen because you'd lure the poachers and hunters here with your thoughtless attitude since you don't know how to behave in a pack."
"You always want to find ways to insult me, don't you?" Yujin interrupted him. By now, her insulted pride was making it easy to ignore the harvest mouse's fear.
