"Why do you avoid other doublers?" Jeno's question caught Yujin off-guard.
They were in the car and Yujin was driving towards his place which, as she had realised when he had given her the address, was surprisingly near to her and Taeil's apartment.
Yujin shook her head in disbelief. "Very subtle", she complimented him. "You seriously think that I'm going to talk even more after monologuing for two days? No way, it's your turn now."
"It was worth a shot", he said and shrugged. She rolled her eyes. "What do you want to know then?" he asked, admitting his defeat easily.
"You said that many of you guys have difficult past, are you one of them?" Yujin's voice was innocent but a slight smile betrayed her.
Jeno laughed. "Wow, and you say that I'm subtle?"
"No one's forcing you to answer", she pointed out cheekily. "I'm just shooting my shot, you see."
Yujin assumed he'd evade her question the same way she had evaded his, since they were practically strangers and it was none of her business.
"I'm one of the lucky ones", he said. Yujin sneaked a peek from the corner of her eye though she was paying attention to the slow traffic around them. He was looking at the cars in front of them with calm eyes.
"I have a pretty normal family and I see them often", Jeno continued, before a teasing grin spread to his face, making his eyes disappear. "Sorry to disappoint, in case you were hoping for a tragic backstory."
"A girl can dream", Yujin mused. "Besides, it's your own fault for planting such cryptic promises of sob stories in my head."
"You should ask the others, maybe they'll have better stories to share", Jeno suggested lightly.
Yujin was silent for a moment before laughing awkwardly at his idea, not knowing how to respond.
"Sure", she said when she noticed that he was looking at her, waiting for her to say something. "Why not."
The air between them shifted, as Jeno tilted his head and studied her sheepish face.
"Are you planning to shut me out after everything we've been through together?" he asked, his voice filled with feigned shock.
When Yujin looked at him, he was pressing his chest with his hands. She was amused by his dramatic attitude.
"I would be touched by your words if I didn't know that you probably don't remember most of it since you spent it as a dog", she told him.
"You think that I don't remember?" Jeno sounded amused and Yujin felt her smile freeze momentarily. Did he remember more than she had suspected he would?
When Yujin had been unable to change back to human years ago, there had been huge gaps in her memory afterwards, as she had been struggling with the different sides of herself. She had assumed that, in that sense, losing control would be similar to everyone.
She remained quiet, thinking through the things that had happened during the weekend, suddenly feeling anxious about it.
"I couldn't influence what I did for the most parts, but I think that I was conscious at least ninety percent of the time", Jeno explained.
Yujin found an easy way out.
"So, you did sleep on top of me on purpose?" she called him out and raised her eyebrows in accusingly.
"No, I didn't!" Jeno exclaimed right away. "That's just a Samoyed thing, I promise!"
Yujin seemed suspicious, so Jeno hurried to explain further.
